  1. I’ve seen the etched inserts as well, but like you, I can’t remember who did them, though Shawplan seems to ring a bell. I’ll get a good friend to install the sound as he’s brilliant at fitting it and just seems to get it to sound ‘right’.
  2. If I get an earlier batch version, I’ll probably have someone fit DCC & sound to it, as well as the aftermarket disc brakes. Problem easily solved if you throw money at it 🤣
  3. Been there, had the t-shirt many, many times 🤣. I tried DCC Supplies but no luck, so I think I'm going to have to buy a used Class 68 and swop the body shells over. The Scotrail and Chiltern versions seem to be reasonably priced at the moment, so might go for one of those.
  4. As previously put, I recently purchased a body shell of 68001, which I was going to swop with another Class 68 model, but I thought I'd email Dapol and ask if they sold working chassis from models that had been returned and repaired as I thought it was a waste to scrap a perfectly good bodyshell. I emailed Dapol off the website but to date, had no reply, which I thought was strange, even if it was to say 'sorry but no'. Should I contact them again or just buy a used model and bin the bodyshell?
  5. I’ve been watching this series and it’s very informative.
  6. Thanks for all the input guys, all very useful and I’ve been watching Tony Wright’s YouTube video’s as well. Obviously, the key thing I’ve learnt is preparation, which is far more critical than on say a plastic or white metal kit. Also, take your time and don’t rush.
  7. I’m thinking of buying a OO/4mm Judith Edge 50t Hunslet kit for my Sellafield layout, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience of building this kit? As I’ve never built a brass etch kit in my life, I’m finding the thought of building it a little intimidating, to say the least. Any tips or advice would be very welcome.
  8. I’ve not ordered any of the first batch of Accurascale Class 66’s as I’m waiting for a second announcement which includes a DRS Tier 2 (5 door) variant. I’ll have 3 please 😎
  9. Doesn’t stop loco’s with 645 or older engines being preserved in the US, including a few of those with the newer 710 engine. Spares are plentiful but the only downside is that their mainly produced in the US or Canada, so your going to have to pay import duties. Okay for a big transportation company, not so good for a small preservation group. I believe both 66001 and 66779 have been claimed, but I don’t know by who, as well as 59001.
  10. But even he had to selectively compress large parts of his layout
  11. Does anyone know if this loco is still available as a Judith Edge kit? Looked on DC Kits website and it showed out of stock (as were most of her kits). Does anyone else stock them?
  12. Even though I'm modelling my small Sellafield layout based on the present era, I've seen pictures of tanks, either full or empty of Caustic Soda or Nitric Acid being hauled by DRS Class 20's, 33's, 37's and 57's. I assume that these flow's have long since finished but I was wondering when they ended, and what the tanks were that were used. Just might be nice to back date the layout from time to time. I know that Caustic Soda is a particularly nasty product and was transported in specially designed vehicles, so I was wondering if the Revolution Trains/Rainbow Railways TUA tanks would fit the bill? Does anyone know what wagon the Nitric Acid would been carried in? And I assume that, that flow finished at the same time as the Caustic Soda?
  13. It would be interesting to see if it’s done again, given the interest shown in Rapido’s N gauge version
  14. As I'm modelling the Cumbrian coast line between 2017 and 18, I was wondering if I can backdate if from time to time and run the odd Class 28. Do you think Heljan will ever re-issue it or more likely go to EFE?
  15. I was wondering what I would need as a base model to create a OO/4mm scale Mk2F BUO (Brake Unclassified Open) as used by Scotrail’s Caledonian Sleeper and now Network Rail on test trains, as well as others. I believe they were converted from Mk2F TSO’s which makes me wonder why they were not converted from BSO’s. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Not sure if to ask here or the ‘prototype questions’ section, but we’re all the DRS Class 37/6’s basically the same or were there detail differences between individual loco’s? I know several DRS Class 37/4’s had minor but noticeable differences such as some had bodyside windows plated over, whereas others didn’t, 37609 had different paintwork in a later DRS life etc. Would be grateful for any information as I’d like to get several more Accurascale compass liveried Class 37/6’s.
  17. I went to the Abrail exhibition in Abingdon and not only was @TEAMYAKIMA Beijiao layout there but an awesome large Australian layout, Broadford. Both had large crowds watching and giving positive comments as they were well built, very impressive with lots of interesting action.
  18. I hope you got to mention Anne Martin and Helen Arnold who not only run Great Eastern Models, a terrific model railway shop in Norwich also but attend local exhibitions and heritage railways with their stall.
  19. I was at a Bachmann Collectors Club event at Peterborough today and I was told that their on the boat and should be with us in about 6-8 weeks. I don't know if they meant with Bachmann or retailers.
  20. I met Dawn and her Monochrome layout at Abingdon and it was absolutely wonderful, a huge departure from the conventional and to be honest, a breath of fresh air from the normal run of the mill layouts. I think you had to look beyond what was obvious and see the hidden details. As @C126 said 'It is a splendid, original idea, and lovely layout'. I look forward to seeing this layout again in the future.
  21. Could that not be the same story with their Class 68’s? Having lost the TPE contract and a number of them stored due to lack of work, I have to question the viability of DRS trying out a Class 93, unless their looking to the future and where most of their traffic will be under the wires.
  22. Thanks @adb968008, I was hoping that would be the case but I didn't know if there were wires to headlights etc, which needed to be taken off after the body was lifted off the chassis.
  23. I've recently purchased a 00/4mm scale body shell of 68001, which I plan to swop with a donor Class 68 when I find one at a reasonable price. Is it a simple enough job?
  24. Thank you Simon, can I ask, were all the slope floored FNA’s (as per the Bachmann model) built by Procor or another builder as well? Sorry if I sound a bit vague but I have a very limited wagon knowledge.
