Since my last post I have radically revised the backscene, so there is now a street passing under the railway bridge and disappearing into the backscene. The cottages I'm building at the moment go from fully three dimensional to completely flat in gradual stages, as you can see in the picture. Working out the angles was complicated, and largely trial and error with a paper mock up before I started in earnest. There is still a lot to do in this scene; the back gardens of the cottages will be in very shallow relief and much making good remains in the rest of the scene before I finally get on to detailing the bridge.

A well observed and interesting scene in the making, keep it up please.

Happy modelling !

That's simply fabulous, you've got a real impression of depth in a completely convincing scene! I'd love to see some plan view shots of the layout that showed just how deep the buildings really are.

I liked the back scene before, but this is even more special, looking forward to your next update!

Superbly atmospheric and moody, it captures the 'feel' of the area (with which I am familiar) extremely well.

Do you have artistic training, by the way? The backscene generally is superb.

Thanks very much for the nice comments - they're very encouraging.

Wenlock: I'm just about to post some more pictures which will reveal the true shape of the buildings -  and the truth about my dodgy miniature woodworking skills!

Captain Kernow: I used to be an art teacher in a secondary school, so the painting is familiar territory!
