After a really big loss of mojo and quite a few failed attempts trying to build anything near decent in O gauge with so little room was driving me mad and l was starting to think do l really want or need a layout ? but with two base boards looking at me in my den measuring 7'6" x 2' l'm thinking there must be something l can do ?

So l have come up with a last ditch attempt to model something decent with plenty of light shunting and a fiddle (cassette) at both ends, so stock will not get trapped on the layout, also a good friend of mine (Mark Owen) has said he would like to help in the construction of a possible exhibition layout, so a start has been made on 'Tanners Wharf', the layout depicts a small yard between two road bridges in south London somewhere one at each end of the layout where locos can run around wagons etc etc, using the cassettes, we have laid the track and wired it all up and are ready to add the point motors... also something different is all the track has been stuck down with (no more nails) and is proving a success so far...

Nice one George, glad to see you've brought in a professional builder at last, I hope this one gets done, as it would be nice to see it Exhibited mate.

P.S. You had a tidy up?

Hi George, I will be following with great interest.

I noticed the layout support legs, they look like the fold up trestle type with adjustable height, up to 1.2-1.3 m, how are you finding them for use with your new layout ?

Regards Kim

Here's a couple of pictures Peter showing the progress we have made so far on the wharf, all tracks will have access to the cassettes so allowing through running were nothing can get trapped, l have an idea for all the buildings which will be made of 2mm plywood with DAZ clay and all the stone work made brick by brick, all the points are second hand and will have their sleepers repaired in time...

Ballast over the Sleeper ends mate, it's a Yard.

Will you put a Building over the Switches and Controller?

Well the first trains were run on the wharf this afternoon, even 33008 had a little run as well, and some shunting took place, must say we enjoyed the play, still plenty to do, next will start the cobble stones not sure how we will tackle that yet might be the DAS again ? l have got some warehouse ideas in my mind, but that will be much later,

Also l have put the layout up as high as l can and its now up to almost eye level....much better....

Hello Peter, The layout is 7'6" x 2' on two boards and the fiddle yards are 18" x 2' at each end (removable) and they hold 2' cassettes which over hang and can pick up and drop from all the tracks, and there are endless possibilities when shunting a few vans and wagons around the yard...

If you need some over centre Latches to hold the boards together and some Coach Bolts I think I have some mate, I'll have a look over the weekend.

Thanks Clive, We had it running yesterday and it was a lot of fun with a few locos and some wagons, need to fit electro-magnets in all the right places first and then fit Digham auto couplings to all the stock before ballasting / cobble stones etc etc..

George if you look on one of Giles’ posts, he made a small brass stamp for making cobbles in Daz.

Basically a number of squares using brass strip on edge.

Sometime last year. I’m on my phone so can’t ref atm.

He has a website and the Sett Embossing tool is on there.

Great potential with this layout George. Your well built wagons and locos will be right at home there.

Jinty ;)

Is that a MOK Q1 loco George?
