Screws, glue or something else?

Thanks, is that glue alone, or screws as well?

Just glue and the odd pin or two, the only screws were for holding the EMGS aligning vowels.

Here is my MO.  Cut baseboard surface to size.  Put 2X1 along one side cut to length, screw top to 2X1 with short screws.   Do the other side.  Add cross pieces of 2X1 cut to length and secure with long screws through holes drilled in 2X1 side pieces,  Screw cross pieces to top.  Job done.  Lay track.

I use 6mm ply sides , internal ribs and top , and 12mm ply ends , I temporarily hold the structure with hot glue and then fibreglass tape and polyester bond all the joints. No nails or screws to be seen

I use both glue and screws. Where I form a corner joint between the cross members and the the timbers running the length of the board I use 2 offset screws to resist twisting. 

1. Glue first, clamp and let it dry. Set square to keep things true. 
2. Pre-drill the hole and to prevent splitting. 
3. Counter-sink to make sure the screw head is flush. 
4. Put the screw in.

I cannot see the benefit of putting screws in after the glue has dried. Screws should be used while the glue is still wet to apply or assist with the clamping.
