  1. There are some industries/services that are more appropriate in the public sector. I believe railways are one of them. Many European countries still think along these lines with rail transport......
  2. I really don't understand Testors business approach. They bought Floquil oil based US RR paints and subsequently discontinued them. They had a hand in an acrylic range and replaced them with Model Master Acryl which were generally good. Now they've discontinued all the larger bottles of both enamels and acrylics, and the Model Master name. Now there are just tiny enamel and acrylic bottles in sets. I have quite a lot left but for new have adopted Vallejo, Citadel and Modelflex.
  3. The pilot is there to advise, the Master is in command. It could be argued that the ship had inadequate fail safe systems - not such a problem in the open ocean but important in critical control situations like this or in canals.
  4. Badger has a good selection in several ranges including US railroads. https://badgerairbrush.com/Modelflex_3.asp The consistency is good for brush painting but can be a bit glossy.
  5. Ok, going back on a Virgin A350 on Tuesday so will monitor.....
  6. April 9th, DL0176. The on-board flight tracker was indicating exactly 50,000ft for most of the flight......
  7. I recently flew from Atlanta to Dublin on a Delta A350 and was surprised that we cruised at 50,000ft!
  8. Yes, true enough, a possible case of 'I know it's correct', I've done plenty of examples over the years, but at viewing distance you probably can't tell if the wires go behind the posts or through them! Good work though!
  9. I must admit this was not a consideration I made. I tried using the Ratio fence kit but had trouble using solvent to attach the wires to the posts. I ended up making posts from square section styrene, drilled using a jig and threaded with brown cotton - I stiffened the end of the cotton with superglue to make threading easier.....
  10. Luckily all the acrylic modelling and artists paints I use are water soluble for brush cleaning.
  11. Surely an easy way to tell is what is recommended for clean up?
  12. Red Panniers by John Scott-Morgan and Kirk Martin is the go-to book on these. I do not have my copy handy but the first two, L90 and L91, were delivered by Swindon painted red, but a slightly brighter red than the rest - good colour photos in the book, including next to an E Class in traditional Metropolitan red. I believe the rest were painted in Metro red but don't know where.
  13. Acrylic is water soluble but permanent when dry. However, Vallejo can be attacked by IPA (not the beer).
  14. Arnold already has a 2-10-0 so shouldn't be too difficult......
  15. Several points here. The rate of TT3 model introduction has been raised but not the volumes - I suspect at any point since introduction there has probably been more TT120 sold than TT3. In TT3, a Jinty and Castle are hardly complementary, and there was a two year wait for further additions. TT3 was I think unique worldwide although 12mm track was probably available elsewhere. TT120 is an established scale elsewhere and a Hornby owned company (Arnold) was already in production. Peco is an astute company and whether by coincidence or cooperation has entered the field - whilst the track obviously has international sales potential the GWR building kits do not (I have built the signal box, it is excellent!). Nor do the open wagons. The J50 is a reasonably logical addition, at least in region with initial ER offerings. A Jinty or Pannier would have been nice but a bit out of sequence. The HST set in BR livery is interesting as last seen in the late eighties so definitely for those old enough to remember that livery.....
  16. Oh dear, such negativity and naivety. Unfortunately A Model World gave a very distorted view of the actual work required. Yes, perhaps other choices could have been made but I'm sure were debated at length to initiate a range expected to continue into mainstream.. Try this
  17. Also it fits neatly into the north eastern initial theme. I could make a small terminus with my Easterner rolling stock.....
  18. I'm not sure what purpose the headshunts serve in the fiddle yard?
  19. The gentleman who made the earlier referenced YouTube video has made a follow-up alluding to the sidethrust being more noticeable when the propeller is partly submerged - yes, makes sense!
  20. Preliminary in 6 months, final in 2 years......
  21. Having watched the video I can see that this is a likely explanation from someone with relevant knowledge. However I don't understand the sideways thrust explanation. Surely, assuming the propeller is fully submerged, the side thrust in the upper arc would be counteracted by thrust the opposite way in the lower arc.....in other words each blade as it rotates would push first one way then the other....
  22. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Underground_battery-electric_locomotives?ssp=1&setlang=en&cc=US&safesearch=off suggest you read the above, yellow is the most recent colour. Modemaster for the LT font.
  23. I make trees with springy multi-strand wire, unraveled and then covered with hot glue. The trunks of your trees look too thin, perhaps they could be thickened with hot glue. Also I would vary the heights a little and try varying the colours a shade or two with green washes. These are 4mm deciduous trees but I tried to vary the sizes and colours.
