'Cheap' wifi Multimaus

If you have your Lenz system connected via LAN to Wi-fi then it will work with it, or if you are using a Digikeijs DR5000 as the base ( it has built in Wi-fi)

Is it straight forward to connect the wifi Multimaus to a Lenz system?  Have you encountered any issues either with either control or wifi connection?

I have a couple of wired Multimaus controllers, I like the idea of a straight forward wireless dial controller.

you will need a Lenz 23151 (http://www.lenzusa.com/1newsite1/Manuals/Li-USB-Ethernet_Config.pdf)n to connect the Xpressnet into the wired network which you then connect to your wireless which you then connect the Multimaus into.

It might sound complicated but it really isn't, but I fear by the time you have bought the interface and then the Mulitmaus it is becoming expensive 0 though you could then also use Touchcab on an iPhone to contril once you have it all connected. Finally now this all gives you the network connectivity into Lenz you can then automate the whole lot and sit enjoying a cup of tea watching the trains do their thing :)

Thank you for the information, I'm already using the Lenz 23151, I find it a great way of setting up my decoders.  I tired Touchcab, clever app, I love the cordless control but I miss a dial! I think I'll try this Multimaus WiFi out.

Thanks again for the information and prompt replies.

Have you tried this Iain, or read or heard of anyone who has been able to connect the WLAN MultiMaus to a Lenz system?

The question was asked here, back in January.

See this thread....

Out of interest, I managed to translate quite a bit of the German web threads on this topic.

The techie bits are mostly gibberish to me but I got the gist.

They were saying that direct connection (e.g. via the Lenz 23151) wasn't possible and that an XpressNet interface and client has to be created, to allow the WLAN MultiMaus to connect to XpressNet and the Lenz system.

I've no idea if any of this is correct, or if direct connection is possible or not, but thought I ought to point out this information in case it was correct and someone was lead up the garden path, so to speak.

Cheers

Ron, I have been going by what i was told by a trader at a recent exhibition who was selling DCC stuff on their stand. I am not sure how accurate the information will be but given that i was told you cannot get power cut outs or auto-reversers that work with accountancy detectors that work with Railcom (and I know that you can as I have both now), it may also be that this information on the Multimaus was incorrect also.

When i think about it, it would make sense for it NOT to be compatible as the Z21 app won.t work with Lenz and the WLan Multimaus uses the same protocol, ergo if one doesn't work it is unlikely the other will.

Apologies if I have started a misinformed myth, I was relaying what I was told - but second thoughts make me realise that the WLan version may not be compatible

Hi Iain, I thought I ought to alert you and others that this discussion has been going on, on German forums, for a year or so.

It would be great for Lenz users, if a direct connection was possible (as with the wired MultiMaus).

From what I've gleaned from various German forums, it seems it's not possible without some techie DIY.

Cheers

If you are using RocRail, I believe it's possible to connect the Wifi Multimaus via this (as it emulates the protocol used by the wifi Multimaus / Z21): http://wiki.rocrail.net/doku.php?id=roco:roco-wmz21-en

This would allow you to connect the Wifi Multimaus to your Lenz system without a Z21 (but you'd still need a 23151 or an LI-USB and something like a raspberry pi running RocRail).
