  1. We have seven cats of our own and two fostered - they all have the run of the house and garden. However, they are not welcome in my railway room - a separate brick built structure at the end of the garden - centrally heated for the winter and air-conditioned for the summer. However, there are times when I would like to work in there with just windows/doors open and the HVAC off - would one of those electronic/sconic devices work placed just inside the door ? Your thoughts would be most welcome.
  2. Even cheaper to buy it used ! Unless you are ballasting something the size of Miniarture Wunderland (speeling ?) I don't understand cheapskating on ballast - it goes a lot further than you think & is one of the most important things to make track look good. Avoid the types made out of crushed nutshells (these are the types that go green/blue when using PVA glue). Unless you are in a hurry then go to a show/exhibition and then you will be able to see a good choice from the traders therer - Busch (often overlooked) make a good range of colours/sizes. Most people go down a size with ballast.
  3. AFAIK sound decoders from ESU/Zimo synchonise using motor pulses.
  4. & of course the Isle of Thanet - home of the great God Hornby.
  5. Bin lorry - or (in true RMW form) it's correct name - "RCV" looks like a good candidate as it has plently of room in the back. Will it be programmed to stop/start every few meters with a line of cars building up behind it ? Also, of course reverse gear will be inhibited when used on public roads.
  6. Could have been a (long gone) other vehicle involved, tyre blow out/mechanical failure or drivers medical issue.
  7. Unfortunatly there were never enough intermediate cars available in HO otherwise I would have been in the market for one. I have seen a full length HO one modelled but it involved a lot of "cut & shutting" & a lot of spare power/trailer cars.
  8. Technically yes, most normal people know them as 100E's - I was forgetting the RMW influence.
  9. Except that they are now discontinued (although I do know where there are some).
  10. Have a look at these (probably a better price from retailers) ; https://www.gaugemasterretail.com/train-tech-pms3-3-point-motor-switch-for-3-wire-point-motors.html
  11. A number of HGV fleets trialled CNG for a while (some may even be continuing). Because they still used a percentage of diesel (IIRC around 10%) there was enough "bang" from the injected diesel to ignite the gas. Personally, I don't see any issue with trying anything that may reduce our forthcoming reliance on grid based electricty. (edited too remove typo to save the pendants making pointless posts).
  12. I found that the early GM decoders were a bit like that on DCC until they were "tweaked", then they were OK on DCC & DC.
  13. Whateverr it is I doubt if it's better QC...........
  14. I had a 100E van with the dreaded vacuum powered wipers. I ftted a vacuum tank from a "de-luxe" saloon car which improved matters. In the end I modified the wipers with electic ones from something else (can't remember what except it was not a Ford).
