  1. Fascinating last few pages on the lamps. As a DC only user, I don't find flywheels make much difference except on heavy diesels where it makes stopping in a terminal platform interesting. The two steamers that I have that have a flywheel are my two Accurascale manors but they may as well not be there, unless the motors are poorer quality than the only other 3 pole loco that I have, which is a Baccy N class and this has no issues with the two insulfrog points or at times, less than clean track. Its basically an 0-6-0 pickups anyway. However for £200+ I would have expected a flywheel. It does not bother me if an engine is metal or not as long as it is capable and looks right, and from my own stud, heavier weight seems to have no relation to hauling capacity, e.g. my total coaches is 24, Hby. King (2018) loco 320g, w/tender 440, max coaches 5, slips at 6, and stops dead on radius 4.5 with 6, lightest loco, Bach. 8750 pannier, 180g, all 24, no slipping, no stopping! I was looking forward to this B5, but to many issues for me.
  2. I've two, the blanking plug was the issue with one of mine. Replacement plug cured the start problem. And if I read "reach out" again, aimed at the under 30's, well..... .
  3. One on left looks like my AS deltic, not lining up with anything, buffers to high.
  4. Fitted AS crew, pushed the dominoes headcode out, scraped off the dominoes with some Meths and then fitted the AS numerical one. A bit of light bleed as in pic below, but not noticeable in use. Lights up quite quick at low voltage for me DC only. Had to hold loco to keep in focus.
  5. I just stuck the spare set of RN's from the AS Deltic over the dominoes to match the Deltic on engine change over. Once I get the body off to fit crew I will see if I can remove dominoes from inside like the Deltic.
  6. That is very true, I just assumed since it's been around so long it would be standard. Maybe it could rewired.
  7. Simple, and it's not so much a moan just a comment, I did not realise this had changed with Bachmann, and really bought for the price, no point getting the 31 & 37 for my dusk use without this. I will look into more in the future. Cav 56 fits in as they have this feature and so will the their 60. Not sure why AS say its complicated both makers AS and Cav used ESU I believe for the PCB.
  8. Picked this (below pics) Kernow exclusive 47 up at Ally Pally from Kernow stand. Lovely model, added the bits and put goalpost couplings on and a bit of weathering, but snowploughs too big so have to find some from somewhere. However being a DC only modeler it was a bit disappointing it did not have cab lighting like previous Bachy’s. Lesson learned never assume. Unfortunately it was only after chatting to Bachmann near the end of the day they said they no longer do this on DC only models. Their reason was, it was too complicated, and when I pressed that Cavelex could do it, they gave a politicians answer, “well as I said it’s too complicated”, me- “but as I said Cav can, why can’t Bach,” Bach “well as I just said before….” etc etc. They sounded just like AS when I asked if the 31, and next batch of 37’s would have DC cab lighting, almost word for word. Cancelled my AS pre-orders on this basis. Just got As crew to fit but could not undo screws (cab lights for my dusk mode lights) EDIT Tues 2,bought at bargain £167
  9. Unless I've been asleep, was there an announcement?
  10. Yippee. I'm 5 coaches plus. Drawing below, easier to see the model in action than explain, work's for me once it's off scene into r2&3 in the thru storage tracks. I will say no more I think did not mean to stir up a hornets nest. Spot on.
  11. Thanks for info. The nail is to push the coupling to follow curve as if it were on the bogie. (not explaining this well). Hope the 60 has bogie ones. I use GM simulation/inertia controllers so use a lot of coasting to slow before applying the brake to stop. Only tested against others after slowing into terminal platform first time and stopped shorter than expected when brake applied . Has much better control than the others now I've done more running (a lot) today. At least with your DC we get the switchable cab lights, I like them on, esp. when room lights in dusk. Just need the fan answer, Great model and has relegated the Deltic now.
  12. Thought I would add my weathering pic. Managed to picked up the last 08 DC only, from John Duffield in Chelmsford on Saturday, gave me 5% off as well! Only 4 other DC variations left at the time. Lovely model, added crew, pipes and small weathering, want it to look like a couple weeks out of works, easiest body removal ever. Had to trim back all sand pipes as they completely stopped both bogies moving and jamming up completely, causing derailing even on gentle curve (@ radius 7), no probs after trimming. Only thing I criticise (I'm sure others wouldn't) is there is not much flywheel momentum. Running on to an isolated section on GM controller 50 speed setting, it stops 1 inch past, in comparison AS Deltic 6", 10 year old Bach 37 (solid buffers one) weight 50g lighter, runs on 5". Full speed AS 2ft, Bach 18" Cav 4". Also unsure how the kinematic coupling action is supposed to work, not connected to bogies so doesn't turn on bends like coach ones do. But good for the bash plate on front. Pic 2 below shows a mod I did so it turns on my l/h curves with a nail to push below pocket. All in all fab haul 24 coaches no problem.
  13. Look out when they both come out, if you're happy with the Hornby one, they will be discounted like the 56's now the Cav's are out. £130 DCC ready at the two remaining box shifters.
