Work, Glorious Work!

Evening   This weekend has been extremely productive in terms of club activity as the decision was taken to hire a local village hall and pack both layouts over for a blitz session. Both Weyford and Yamanouchi Oshika benefitted from some serious and sustained attention. It was also great practice in breaking down, transporting and re-erecting the layouts.   We certainly had a lot of room to play with, as can be seen in this picture. Weyford is obviously in the foreground, with Yamanouchi O

Club Open Day

About five years ago the club had a very successful open day, demonstrating a number of our layouts as well as other bits and pieces - demos etc.   This year we have decided to repeat the open day format (not an exhibition)with the two layouts currently starring in our club's blog. If anyone is in the east Hampshire area on Sunday October 24th why don't you have a nice day out and come and say hello!   MODEL TRAINS IN THE VALLEY 2010 Poster2.rtf

More on YouTube - our club's old N gauge layout

Another short video clip, and this time something of a blast from the past...   This is Maddegan Road, our first attempt at an N Gauge exhibition layout. It was built by a couple of us about 8 years ago, and although still in existence has been in storage for about five years and probably in quite a bad way.   The layout represents a small wayside station on a secondary route somewhere is the UK. The geography was determined by the type of stock operated. In this clip it is in post-privati

Yamanouchi Oshika on YouTube!

Yamanouchi Oshika is now formally on Youtube!   I have started to upload a number of videos of Yamanouchi Oshika onto Youtube. It is a long and labourious job...this 16 second trial took half an hour to load!   Over the next few weeks/months, I'm aiming to add a few videos not only of Yamanouchi Oshika and Weyford, but also a couple of club layouts past; including our 0 gauge attempt.   For those that are interested, the following is on show:   The yard has a Micro Ace DD16 moving

Progress

All has been quiet in the blog front for quite a while; however activity is carrying on.   On Weyford the last few weeks have been taken up with running sessions; we want to confirm the types of running sequences that will be carried out before the daunting task of rewiring the station, station approach and yards start. The layout will be dismantled next week and the first of the boards taken away for close attention courtesy of John; plus any others who are good with a soldiering iron!   Th

Weyford -on-Sea

We have had trains running again on Weyford, however not as many would have intended. It was time for my newly aquired Japanese H0 loco fleet to get a run, and boy am I impressed.   First up is the EF81, in one of the many variations of freight livery. This loco has a wonderful throbbing noise from its motor. The EH500 attracts little interest from the local train spotters...suprising really as it makes a change from the usual diet of Bulleid pacifics and T9s... EF64-1000 and EF66 rest i

Weyford-on-Sea

Time for another update...   Following the mad rush of February, we now have a period of calm, where none of the club's layouts are due to be shown for a few months. Yamanouchi Oshika is back from two very successful shows - Alton and Midhurst - and has now been stored so that work can continue on Weyford, our 00 layout. Last club night was spend erecting Weyford, and hopefully it will be ready to run by next Friday...have been instructed to bring lots of toys to play with!   Work has not

At last, we have returned following Christmas, snow etc.   Still we are focussed on getting our N gauge layout ready for the Alton show in February, followed by the Midhurst show a couple of week later. Yamanouchi Oshika has it's own thread on here now, and progress photos will be posted in the club's gallery.   Currently we are working on the townscape behind the station, as well as the tram line and depot. There will be some work on general tidying up, and of course, we need to add the cat

Snow Stops Play

Thanks to Matt for those pictures...   Annoyingly there was no club on Friday thanks to the weather, our club room is situated in a little village only accessable by single track backroads. As next Friday is Christmas Day and the following is New Years Day, we will reconvene on the 8th January; weather of course permitting.   This only leaves 4 club nights until the next show!   So for 2009 all that is left is to wish all a peaceful Christmas and a happy new year...

Yamanouchi Oshika

Well, another night at the club (and a new potential member) and we have got lots done on the Japanese front. Ben has kindly cut a piece of MDF to provide a suitable base for the tramway. We also had a play with positioning the buidlings.   Enjoy   You're only supposed to blow the B lo ood y doors off!             Tonight further consideration was given to the proposal for a tram line on Yamanouchi Oshika.   Initially this was just on the new scenic board, although based

Yamanouchi Oshika

A fairly quiet night on Friday, with only four of us in attendence. For me, it was the chance to run a couple more trains and to start planning the town area. The rather faint lines on the board are sketching out a wide boulevard, to be flanked by high rise buildings. There was the suggestion we would have a tram line, however in view of the space and available time this is now unlikely.   A couple of buildings were obtained at Warley, and we will start locating these next week, although I

Yamanouchi Oshika

Whilst work was ongoing on Weyford, a start was made in converting the town from Cottleston Park to Yamanouchi Oshika. Stripping off the UK buildings was fairly easy as not all were fixed down, and two sections are removable for access to the tracks beneath.   Firstly we have a 'before' picture...   The buildings in the background are on the removable boards; the lower board has the bus garage with station building, the upper has a number of shops. Once these were taken off work could begi

Weyford

With all the excitement of the Japanese layout conversion getting underway, attention has somewhat shifted from Weyford. Work does continue here, with attention being mainly given to adding the cobbles to the yard end and painting the 'concrete' at the other. Martin is busy fitting the cobbled surface... At the other end, Ben has been experimenting with spraying painting the concrete surface. Further scenic work is continuing down at our host's house, where a number of new buildings are

Have been having a little play around with some basic publicity material, before our club's maestro in this department works his magic...   Yamanouchi Oshika.doc   This attachment is just a standard word document, nothing flash...

Yamanouchi Oshika

We have a new name for the layout that was, up to now, called Cottleston Park...   Welcome to Yamanouchi Oshika. Although it will still carry to corruption Cote-le-Stone at the : Alton Febex show before reverting to its full Japanese identity in time for Midhurst...

Cottleston Park

A few more snaps of Cottleston Park (still being referred to as such until a new name is decided upon (although should it now be Cote-le-Stone?)).   First up is 009Matt's Tomytec Portram. Looks good and runs well, but the question is how long will it remain like this before it get butchered into the latest incarnation from the East Hants workshop?   Next up is a visior from Hong Kong - a Ktt set produced as a limited edition by Kato. Yes, the loco does look suspiciously like an SBB class 4

It's Showtime!

A landmark decision was made made on Friday.   As of next year Cottleston Park will be no more, replaced for one show only by Cote-le-Stone and thereafter as a Japanese outline layout!   Work is already started on the scenics to shift it away from the UK scene to something a little more exotic...   Shows to be attended next year will be the Alton Febex - as Cote-le-stone and then the Midhurst show on the 28th February in full Japanese splendour!   A Japanese name was selected last Friday

Cottleston Park

Tonight was the moment of truth. How would the electrics fare having been in storage? The simple answer is very well!   The controller was plugged in, and after a minor glitch traced to a loose wire on the controller connection, we were ready to go! The track was cleaned and teeh first trains to run for over a year were let loose.   I took along a single box of bits to try out, pictures below:   The first example is a very nice Micro Ace Kiha 48 two-car DMU. This model runs as well as it

Weyford

A few more pictures from the last week as a progress update.   The next job around the docks area is to complete the platform tops. This is in the capable hands of Ben and looks pretty god so far. The M7 is one of 009Matt's forays into the big stuff .   Evidently Hornby know something about the M7 that none of us at the club were aware of     Finally, also from the workshops of 009Matt are a number of soldiers out and about on the cliff top...

Cottleston Park

As promised, here are a couple of photos of Cottleston Park.   Scenicly things will change, mainly in terms of buildings in the town area, most of which are standard Kestrel kits, out-of-the-box Liddle End, Farish paper-on-block and Metcalf. All have done their job in a respectable fashion, however this was really the main weakness of the layout. The only real plus points in this department are the contributions from Tony G, especially his total transformation of the kestrel shops in the 5th p

Cottleston Park

Cottleston Park comes out of storage.   Last Saturday our club??™s N Gauge layout, Cottleston Park, was finally set up following a year in storage. Fortunately it was secure and dry, so the scenics are none-the-worst from their ordeal. Controllers are being plugged in on Friday, so we can see how the electrics have fared.   Originally built as a UK outline layout, set from the 1980s onwards, changing tastes and club membership has resulted in insufficient UK stock to do the layout justice. Weyford on Sea

A quick recap??¦   Weyford on Sea is our club??™s 00 layout, intended to depict a former Southern Railway terminus in the 1950??™s. Plenty of Dorset sun, sand and sea, served by lots of lovely Bulleid Pacifics, King Arthurs, Lord Nelsons etc. It is unashamedly a harking back to the days when holidays usually meant packing the bucket and spade, and hopping onto the train to the coast??¦   When we left you on the earlier RMWeb, work was continuing apace in the docks area. This is fed by a bran

As some may have been aware on the previous incarnation of RMWeb I, and a number of others, have been regularly posting updates on a our club project ??“ the 00 layout Weyford-on-Sea. Although a large layout which is currently taking a lot of our efforts, it is only part of our club endeavours and interests.   Weyford is of course not the only layout from our club that is represented on here, there was a thread with a number of pictures posted of our N gauge layout Cottleston Park, as well as
