Hi Kreator01 I have not collected every issue so far as I'm only buying the ones that I want off E-bay. The buildings don't interest me I'm just after the rolling stock and other oddments.

When you get started you can post some photos on here to help others with the build.

I made the bad mistake of just buying one issue of No 1 (Should really have bought three more!!)

I don`t know whether they are going to add point motors, Just got an Issue with a Street Lamp with full wiring , so maybe they will add also!

When I start the build I will definitely post  progress, I was thinking of re-doing the layout though to fit to my own needs in the future.

PS: I got a Hornby Jinty off of Ebay

Hello, Just a quick line, I have decided to abandon this collection, It was taking a heavy toll on my Finances each month So have ended the subscription, However I am going to follow as much of the original layout.

The baseboard which they tell you to build, would have cost me another 50 or 60 Quid, so have decided to go down a cheaper route after seeing a Romford Model Railway Club Youtube Video

Got a Cheap Saddleback tank Loco from Ebay today only a tenner so I can have some freight traffic as well

Hi There.

I'm from South Africa. We are only on issue 11. My layout sits in the garage which is prone to flooding. (I have sealed the wood) however it is now coming in to the rainy season, and I don't want it sitting on the floor. Have any of the issues mentioned the construction of the legs or support for the layout. Would like some advice on this. This is my first layout, so the simpler the better.

On an unrelated matter. The magazine mentions the layout can be split in half and stored. Had a look at the track plan and don't see how they would split it in the middle without cutting through the station platform, school and track. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi I have not seen any article but this might help. As for splitting the layout I can't see the best way with out removing some buildings.

LEGS

These must be at least a minimum of 2" X 1" (44 x 21mm) PSE and braced to prevent movement. As I stated earlier, I aim to have my layouts around 39" (1000mm) above floor level. Trestles are one option and these can be very easily made from some 44 x 21mm PSE and a couple of 50mm butts or two 30mm back flap hinges. The drawing below shows the simple format these take and the legs are prevented from opening too wide (and causing collapse) by a length of small linked chain spanning the two cross members, which also offer some means of height adjustment too. Notches have been cut into the cross members to allow the baseboard side rails to locate and prevent any sideways movement. Don't forget any additional internal baseboard strutting will also require a notch or notches cutting in the cross members too.

Trestles work well on both semi portable and fully portable layouts. However, on on my former portable layout I opted for fixed 'Up & Under'  hinged legs. To enable this I used 1
