Mid term update.
Well, for my half year update, it is more about life than model making.
The first couple of months were ok for time at the bench. Then in march things changed quite dramatically. Mother in law sadly passed away which was devistating for the family here. After this it was decided we would move to our house and father in law would come with us. Here lies problem one, our house was designed for us to live in as a couple. So although we have 3 bedrooms two were smaller guest rooms. The best option was to enlarge my work room and turn the downstairs bathroom to an en-suite. that was the easy part. We then needed a bathroom for his driver and maid. Lots of thinking and we manage to get a small bathroom, laundry room and store in the small back garden. At one time this would of all been part of a sitting and BBQ area on the other side of the back garden. but because of the enlarged room that design no longer fitted. Not likely to have a BBQ now. I know I can hear you all saying maids and driver, well,it is not as good as it sounds. Nothing is where you left it, there is no privacy and just because you had something it does not mea it will be there when you want it.
So after two months of building work and mess we had an altered house. A large room with a bathroom and a glorified shed with a bathroom. My workshop was now upstairs but little has been done model wise in there. It actually got pilled up with stuff that was in the way elsewhere while the building was being done, Just finished a second clearout in there so I can now sit at the bench again.
We are now living in the house and trying to get some resemblance of normallity back in our lives. Two weeks after moving the 24 June to be precise, we have a bit of a shock. Our 2 day old son arrived through the adoption agency. After nearly three years of waiting and sort of giving up hope. There we were with a new baby, no clothes, cot, bottles or food. It is very difficult to plan for something that may never happen. Normally you have nine months to prepare. We both were over the moon and fallen deaply in love with the little fella. New born babies and model making do not go well together, especially as his clock is broken and our 3 hourly feeds and his are different his means two feed within three hours or better still within two and a half hours. In the twenty plus years since my 20 something daughter was a baby, I forgot that a feed in which he drinks his milk in under 20 minutes actually means you are not doing anything for best part of 2 hours, And with his timing the spare hour is closer to half. Not having to work I am really enjoying seeing him grow, so so diffferent to when the others were small and I missed it all having to earn a crust.
So thats my year so far, some what different to the one I saw at Christmas. Now I can get back to my model making, still lots to do, and now no time to do it in.
Yes adopting was a hard decision to make, but I would say one of my better ones. I had many thoughts on what it would be like and my reasons behind it. But when he arrive I realised it was not so much what I could do for him, but what he did for me in those first few moments when we met. What a wonderful experiance. Now our big house that we rattled around in, is now our home our family home. What a difference.
