Think it also helps that Whitby is the destination not the starting point. So you get on a train at Pickering, see the Yorkshire Moors, pootle along the Network Rail line to Whitby where it's off to buy some expensive fish and chips and pop down to beach before returning to Pickering having had a grand old day.

Which is why the MRC extended it to a roundy roundy: https://www.themodelrailwayclub.org/layouts/minories/

Perhaps people want to forget the period, it was a bit of a downer on the railways, just before the HST revolution and everything was going south - painting DMUs a bright colour whilst letting stations got to wrack and ruin, polishing a turd comes to mind. But ahhhh do I miss it, that's when I was spotting.

So to be clear, I thought a man on YouTube was spouting conspirational rubbish about a hidden under land within Bridgnorth and so far people have been telling me it's not so far fetched. Note to self, if travelling on the SVR don't leave the platform at Bridgnorth, in fact stay on the train and lock the compartment door.😲

I found a chap on YouTube with what appears to be some theories about a sub terranean element to Bridgnorth based on all the basement windows and bricked up 'windows' he saw about town. He also had theories about ice houses not really being ice houses in another video of a different place. I think he would be very interested in the idea that there might exist a subterranean engine shed, if only he could find 'what lies beneath' Bridgnorth. He might wet his pants if he found the 'hidden' gated north end of the tunnel in the woodland

One day people will recognise the beauty in the White / Blue DMU scheme and do a thread about them.

Hornby Class 87 - Confirmed Newly Tooled Version for 2017 !
woodenhead replied to ThaneofFife's topic in Hornby
I don't think anyone is thinking this. What would be the point for Bachmann, they'd be better of doing an 81 next if they were going to do another electric. It would be similar to asking Heljan to do one and then an 86/1 as well using the chassis. The boat for an 87 has sailed for a decade. -
DEMU Showcase Sutton Coldfield June 15/16 2024
woodenhead replied to newbryford's topic in Exhibitions
I imagine size plays a part - don't think DMU have the space for Eastfield or Heaton Lodge, well maybe Eastfield but then they might lose a lot of space for other layouts. I think there is Allerby which would be suitable for DEMU, perhaps next year if they are available and DEMU ask. There's not much N gauge either which arguably is very suited to the modern scene with long trains and plenty of these about too suitable for a DEMU. But at the end of the day the organisers try hard to find a mix of scales and eras as mid 1960s to present day is quite a window of eras now. The list for this year looks quite good and it doesn't bother me if it's not full of my scale, good modelling is not specific to any scale. -
No-one has mentioned the opposite action - putting the screws back in again. I find a spot of black Tack on the end of a philips is a good starting point to get it in the hole and through one turn, then withdrawn quickly before it grips everything within reach an creates a black vortex.

I've been using old loyalty cards to prise them apart plus a nifty extending knife. Luckily I don't have to go in often...

I think Royal Mail wants a bigger share of the income so is making it more attractive to buy online, so basically buying at the Post Office costs more (their cut) and has less benefits to the end user. The Post Office now acts as a hub for DPD and Evri in selected branches. The seperation of these two entities (RM and PO) accelerates.

I had a shock last year with an item I was sending by post, looked up the price and then got stung in the post office because I had found the online purchase price.

And not to mention the Government bus subsidisation at £2 per journey, a lot lot cheaper than the cost of the train. It could not compete on equal terms and in a time of high inflationary pressures, the bus would always win out.

And I don't think it's even signed for anymore, just handed over with a smile. I used to use Signed For on smaller sales, but there's not much I would sell for under £20.

The worst I've seen so far - Graham Farish class 108. No screws, no clips but the body is so tight to the PCB (I think it's the window plastic that is the issue), that it can literally bend the body and prise the PCB away from it's fittings when taking off the body. I've gotten better at doing it with practice, but I was very worried that I would have banana shaped units at one point.
