  1. Can anyone comment if the running issues are still present on the new release 91110? The heavy running through point work and the lack of fore and aft bogie movement. We know Hornby are producing a new design of underframe/bogie setup due the issues, it just seems very grey when!! TIA.
  2. Nice bloke, very helpful and polite yesterday and the Ally Pally show stand. Accurascale poaching all the best staff in the business :) PS Has Mike Wild also left Hornby Mag. I think i saw in the last mag they had an acting editor?
  3. Update (worryingly) from Hornby (just one line emails) re-parts to resolve the 91 poor running issues. Thank you for your email, unfortunately the replacement parts have failed to make an appearance. on pushing further given the very brief reply: Thank you for your reply, the parts on are back order with supplier with no confirmed delivery date. So just two one line emails in response! This really is poor customer service from Hornby, not the kind of caring 'we are about making people happy' setup (remember the old chap with his broken Rocket loco) the TV show makes them look like. I have 2x 91's that i didn't return to the retailer on the basis this would be resolved fully and quickly with replacement parts due last Autumn. How can Hornby not know at all when a part is going in to production thus delivery back to them (now circa 6 months later)? Does anyone know a way to reach Hornby higher up? I was going to ask Simon this weekend at the London Ally Pally show but Hornby weren't even there!
  4. Can confirm the back to backs on my wheel sets checked so far are 14.6 to 14.7. So wide to gauge (not one is 14.5 or less). All other stuff I have seems to be 14.5 max including Accurascale Class 92 and JUA's, so here is the issue. Looks like its going to be a widespread issue, not a rogue axle here and there. Tried the quick fix of just pushing the axle tighter together but its not having it. Either due to the axle caps or something else. I wonder would it be possible to shave a bit off the axle length with sandpaper of a fine file? Have to consider whether i try fix myself, return or sell on via ebay! Have to do some more tests to see how widespread the derailing is on non-straight through point running.
  5. I will have a check when i have access to my layout again (away at the moment). The fact its hitting the frog and thus forcing a lift over the check rail made me think potentially wide to gauge. If it was narrow i would have expected it to have hit the check rail and be well clear of hitting the frog?
  6. Has anyone had any slight derailing issues with their MK5's (TPE set for me). Using standard Code 100 Peco points and I notice there's sometimes a clipping noise as the pass through. It often seem to be facing points when diverging. Ive ran a coach by had through points and the lead axle on each bogie is clipping the frog and forcing the wheel to lift over the check rail. I do need to check the back to back on the axles as a tad wide to gauge sprang to mind. I have completed some other basic checks already such as ensuring the bogie movement is free. I don't have any other derailing issues with other stock (Accurascale or other vendors) so I am not thinking its anything p-way specific to my layout. Interested to hear if others have faced such issues and any suggested fixes beyond back to back checks.
  7. If only it was loose, its stuck hard in that position! Too much risk trying to free up on a new model so yet another return it is. Sloppy QC must cost the model business a fair bit. Not sure who take the hit on return postage costs etc!
  8. Thanks for the info. I have dug around and seen a few images and haven't seen any like mine. Typically (I am a little jinxed with defective models it appears) I seem to have picked up a rogue one. I have never had more defective models than during this last year. Given the now high cost of models I had hoped QC might have taken a step up too, maybe the reverse has actually happened!?! Anyhow I have arranged a swap out with my online retailer, the hassles of dealing with that now. Going to be unlikely to have this resolved before xmas I think!
  9. Has anyone else had a loco with the radiator etched mesh poorly glued?
  10. Hornby told me today.... Thank you for your email, sadly we are still waiting for the parts to be delivered from our overseas supplier with no confirmed delivery date. If you send me an email in 4 weeks' time.
  11. Seems so. Awaiting replacement (redesigned) parts is what they told me. That's going to be bogies surely, bogies that allow pivot. They will either have to leave the dampers as separate Bachmann style static display fit only or under scale the size to allow clearance i assume.
  12. Given my other posting I am curious on this matter. I am in contact with Hornby regarding a repair on mine (the standard running issues reported by most). Did they replace just one bogie or both? Is there more pivot movement in the bogie(s) now? Does it still thumb hard through point work or improved? Thanks.
  13. I am in discussion with Hornby now, I need to reply back to them. The current status is they are doing retooling work in China for future releases to apparently resolve the issues. When these parts are available they will have a process of repair for current customers. The suggestion seems to be that if you send your locos of now you will get a half way house fix. If you wait you will have a repair to the same standard as future releases. However they gave no time scale for this!
  14. My first IC attempt was one with no blemish amazingly! Not sure if my retailer TMC did checks pre-despatch?
  15. I've just noticed that West Hill now do a 2022 specific coupling pack for the MK4 sets. Anyone tried this? West Hill stuff in my view seems decent enough normally. I was just surprised to see them use intermediates for the coaches, I thought that would be too long but in the pics on their site they look pretty close.
  16. So I've found a few photos on Flickr and it seems that there's little evidence of the EWS saloon being pushed a lot. So assume when it was it was just short shunts or moves. Its seems they indeed did work with KUA flasks. As well as the surprising amount of external detail on a 10 year old model I have now taken the body off and am surprised at the detail level internally (even parts that aren't visible!), albeit just one colour plastic. For the parts that are visible I think i will pick out some detail/add some passengers. Has anyone ever seen any photos of the inside of the EWS saloon (or the many earlier variants)? Despite what another poster said I am not fussed about internal lighting, not so much of a fan TBH, so will leave that as it is. My pickups observation was just a curiosity as I said in my original post. I also have no beef with Caroline, I just have no intention at £150 or so, for those that do I am sure it will be a fine model.
  17. I picked up an EWS saloon for what is these days a pretty fair price i say, £50 odd pounds for mint. I know little about the saloon other than it looks a nice model and something different (and I have no intention paying £150 or whatever for Caroline). Can anyone tell me how often these were propelled, i know they had limited capability? I see that Caroline has full blue star control so spends as much time being pushed as pulled but with the EWS saloon was it not as much the case, if propelled at all bar the odd shunt etc? PS Curious to see the bogies made with pickups but it ends there, no internal lighting and so on factory fitted.
  18. Sure. Its 37706 Conidae. Seems that this came from the same era as 37068 that had no plates. The era when Bachmann decided to not include anything for a while it seems! So it seems my model is indeed probably not missing anything unless anyone can advise otherwise. I have spoken to Brian at Shawplan and has good stocks of what i need for the loco. A cost i didnt expect but hey ho.
  19. Has anyone had the body off their DBSO yet? I want to do some internal mods/detailing but am all but scared of trying to get it off on such pricey model without understanding how minus damaging it! We all know how delicate modern models are. Anyone been there and done that before me?
  20. Hi Forum Can someone with more product knowledge please advise me if OO scale Class 37 Bachmann locos come with separately fitted etched plates for all plaques? Specifically on a subsector livery loco would that include nameplate, depot plaque and BR double arrow (or just nameplate)? Its just to help me understand what might be missing on a recent new purchase that the seller has no more of. I am very sure they come with nameplates as a minimum, cant recall on BR arrows/depot plaques. Thanks kindly.
  21. A re run will for sure happen given they have the tooling to get the return on investment back on. However thus far we havent seen a re-run of the DRS compass 20/3 that pretty much sold on pre-order too. I guess it's also about slots in the factory etc etc. One small fear is if there is a re-run at what price will it be in 2023. 10% increase is just default with model railways, even when no one in the wider world heard of the word inflation. Next year could we see 20-25% on models....never say never! I have been told stories of imported beer going up 50% for 2023 (not totally related to model costs of course). DBSO's even discounted could be over £150 but on the bright side less than crazy ebay prices now! They have massively under estimated NR demand whilst maybe over estimating AR/IC demand. You could see the NR being the best seller by a mile of course.
  22. Still looking at/scratching my head with the running issues with mine. For sure its got to be to do with the restriction in for and aft bogie movement. This has been done to counter the very limited clearance of the dampers to body. Hornby clearly haven't thought the consequences through. Taking the bogie frame off makes no difference (as expected). The only solution i see is to trim done the vertical piece of plastic that by design reduces movement and then trim off some of the damper to give clearance. I am not quite sure how to get the bogie off without damage and am reluctant to do so on brand new £200 model. I am going to add to the weight and write to Hornby on this. Here's a pic of what the limited movement seems to do on plain line straight track, but just off level track. A spirit level shows it to be just off level but something no other loco/unit/carriage/wagon I have has an issue with. It look likes the right damper is the issue in the pic but its a red herring. Taking off the bogie frame makes no difference. Cleary we can see why there is so much uneven loading on the axles through point work.
  23. Could you let me know how you get on please, if trimming the dampers helps? Its one of the possible things to try. The other would be to trim the lugs that restrict bogie movement but this looks hard to do. We have seen images on here of fractured bogie clips. In the circled you can easily see the vertical plastic lug that restricts fore/aft movement, I think due to the high damper detail and risk of body collision like you say. Hornby have modelled this prototypically (but unworkably) tight?
  24. Good point on contacting Hornby, I need to do so. I dont hold out much hope of anything coming of it but maybe if we all did, weight of numbers might make them think!
  25. I am bog standard code 100. Its a mix of mostly newer Peco with tighter frog gapping and some older with the larger gaps. To be honest is bangs through all the point work, newer or older. The key thing here is i have no other issue with any other loco I have, bar a slight similar tendency with the Dapol 73. This recent Hornby 87 is a totally different running beast compared this 91. You wouldn't have thought they came from the same stable. I was considering a 2nd 91, TBH that is now off and will keep my heavily modified older 91. I am now tempted to extend the detailing to this further (i had put it off given the new model). I might even be tempted to off load this newer 91 in time if i cant live with it. I think i can see ways to improve bogie movement at the sacrifice of some bogie detail but it looks a difficult/risky business on a £200 model.
