  1. Yes since either you or Barry mentioned it I’ve been using GT85 on most everything. Very pleased with the results.
  2. Why don’t you look on the Liverpool Lime St thread.
  3. So sorry to hear this news. This is one of the finest model railway layouts ever built. An historical masterpiece. Surely the theft is pointless, the locos will stand out by a mile if they try to sell them? I do hope somebody can track them down. Best of luck.
  4. Wonderful pictures of what I think is my all time favourite layout, thanks for posting. please can you put up some more of the breakdown train and can you provide details of the support vehicles please.
  5. I wonder how many people who have tried to build a Jidenco kit have uttered those immortal words “ how do I get round this one then”
  6. I too cannot recall ever seeing a picture of of one in carmine and cream. Manufacturers, and I’m including the N gauge society here, are not averse to giving us “pretty “ but non prototypical liveries from time to time.
  7. If you ask most retailers whose products they get returned most Hornby or Bachmann then it will be Hornby. Shocking quality control.
  8. Hi all Its Monday and I’m taking it as a rest day after the show supporting Britains Biggest Model Railway at Shepton Mallet. We all enjoyed the show and getting the layout out for the first time since 2019. How long we can do it is an issue as our limited number of operators is dwindling fast and we are all 2 years older. Overall the layout performed pretty well. A dead section on the slip was an irritant as was 2 sprung point blades but there were some great running sessions, notably on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning when everything was running exactly to plan. Good to see many familiar faces and talk to many people. Special mention to Combe Martin of this parish who watched all day Saturday and saw over 300 sequence moves!!!
  9. I personally prefer Pressfix, or used to, I don’t think the quality is as good as it used to be. However I’ve been very impressed of late by Railtec transfers, their 3D smokebox plates are out of this world. Not used them but I’m sure they do coach lining for maroon coaches.
  10. Thanks so much Andy, for all your work in getting things back up and running. A bout of Covid coincided with the loss of RM Web, fine now, but you don’t realise how much you miss something till it’s gone!
  11. Many thanks to all. 8” it is for the M7. It is a bit of a minefield-especially LNER locos. B1 s for instance seem to have larger numbers 10”??
  12. Hi there This may well have been covered before, if so, apologies, please point me in the right direction. Is there a resource site that gives the commonly used cab side numeral sizes used on BR steam locos? Ie. 8”,9”,10”,12” etc? Im currently looking at M7s but I’ve had cause to ask the question on numerous occasions for many different classes.
  13. Hi Tony Itoo use Halfords Ford Burgandy red on maroon coaches, have done for some years, and have had good consistent results. Comet ex LMS 12 wheel diner first Dia 1857. Please note roof is only in undercoat and awaiting some conduit holders for the piping.
  14. Not a club Combe Martin. Simon George, the owner and builder of Heaton Lodge Junction is the organiser. Following on from his first showing of the layout in Wakefield, in his attempt to get as many people to see it as possible, and spread the word about our hobby, this is the layouts showing for the South west. Unlike Wakefield a number of other layouts have been invited and there is trade support. I think Simon has a website on which there are more details.
  15. Just heard that a coach is being arranged to run from the Model Railway Solutions shop in Alder Hills Poole on Sunday 10th April. Details can be had from the model shop or ring 01202 798068. This is turning into quite a show . As well as the biggest model railway in Britain, Heaton Lodge Junction, and Bournemouth West there are a growing number of other superb layouts that have been invited including Bath Green Park, Evercreech New and Wimborne, to name just three. There will also be a large trade support. I will post more details when I know them.
  16. Well it is now official. We will be supporting Simon George‘s wonderful “Heaton Lodge Junction” , Britains biggest model railway, at the Bath and West showground on April 8, 9 and 10. Now all we’ve got to do is get the layout up and working!! Details of the show will be in the model press.
  17. Skew Bridge, just south of Preston on the WCML. 4 tracks and a train every 3-4 minutes (imagine that now), tons of black 5s, 8F, Brits, pats and Scots as well as class 40s, 24,25 etc. we’d set of early from home in Southport, catch the Ribble bus, back home around 7 at night. We were 11 in 1963! Times have certainly changed!
  18. Well it’s been a very long time! COVID and a number of other factors ( none of us are getting any younger and people have other things in their lives going on) mean BW has been in store for 2 years this coming February. However………. The news is , all being well, we will be back up and running this year. We have decided to concentrate on “local” shows. The demands of travelling long distances is just too great so we are due to appear at the New Milton show in July this year. BUT, watch this space as we may have a very important announcement for April 2022!!!
  19. Absolutely right Jesse. There was a huge variety in the size of the coal in steam days. Most locos carried a coal hammer to split the larger lumps that wouldn’t fit on the fireman’s shovel. As for painting coal with Humbrol 33- surely that’s a Matt paint? Coal was never Matt it was shiny!
  20. I’ve mentioned this several times on here already but there is one track cleaner which really does work . It is the one supplied by DCC Concepts. Totally unlike the Peco one, and most others I’ve seen. It doesn’t have harsh grit in it but contains aluminium oxide. Unlike other track cleaners you must not press or rub hard, rather simply lightly run over the tops of the rails with a polishing action, this means there is no crud. Ive used one for several years on both my home layout and a large exhibition layout- superb results. No connection with DCC Concepts just a very satisfied customer.
