Hi Paul. I think there is every possibility that the system will become available but it may not follow the TRS format of adapting people’s existing models. Paul is aware of this thread now so it’s up to him if he wishes to comment further, we are only a showcase for his invention.

I would just like to make it absolutely clear that this is NOT the system used on Bournemouth West exhibition layout. Paul Doust is the inventor of the system we use and has successfully applied to patent it. It is my opinion that the system used on Bournemouth West and New Kensal Green is, in fact, far superior and has been refined and tested, under exhibition conditions over a number of years. West Riding Terminus- Halifax Powell Street

One of the best layouts to ever appear on these pages and very well documented. Best of luck for the future and one day I hope to see another masterpiece emerge.- 533 replies

This really is some of the most stunning modelling I’ve ever seen.

Bournemouth West has been hibernating for over a year now - last outing at Doncaster in February 2020. we are all, therefore, both thrilled and amazed that we have come first in BRMs 2020 layout of the year competition! A big thank you to all out there who voted for us - means a lot to us!

From my experience the layout owner is usually asked if they would like smoke adding. Personally I don’t have a problem if it’s done well, it just adds to the atmosphere. -
Coming along very nicely Nigel. I particularly like the wagon weathering - must have a chat with you about that.

The point I was trying to make about Sam’s Trains is that , although he may be a lovely chap he has set himself up as one of these, so called, “influencers “ by just simply starting a You Tube channel. Little knowledge, poor research of the prototype, amongst others seem to be his credentials. I just think this should be questioned more. It seems anybody can do this and people “ follow” like sheep. Not least they are making money from somewhere for doing it. Unbiased opinion? I think not. it’s a dangerous precedent when anybody can spout nonsense because they’ve tagged themselves an “expert”. No doubt there are plenty of You Tube influencers trying to tell people why they shouldn’t have the Covid-19 vaccine as well. -

Yes, sadly, this is the way now Tony. I’m afraid anyone who can use a computer can say anything they like about anything else irrespective of whether they have any knowledge of the subject matter or not. Very sad. -
How realistic are your models? Photo challenge.

Absolutely superb Kier. Great way to pass an hour. Beautiful modelling. -
Sad news, an immensely talented modeler. His unique method of making buildings was brilliant. I know the area well, brought back many memories.

Heaton Lodge Junction

Yes the Peco one does that as it’s very abrasive. However the DCC Concepts one doesn’t at all. Simply polishes the rail head. Oh and when it gets dirty it can be washed and it’s as good as new. -

Hi Simon i ditched Peco track rubbers some time ago, couldn’t put up with the degree of “clag” they produce, however I do model in 00. Have you tried the DCC Concepts track rubber- best I’ve ever come across. Leaves practically no residue, it’s made from aluminium oxide. Best way is simply to polish with it not put a lot of pressure on. No link to them just a very happy customer . -

I’ve used Halfords grey primer for the last 10 years or so- on everything from plastic to brass. No problems at all with adhesion, a terrific product in my opinion. -

Yes Michael’s build of the B16/2 is superb and I followed the build when building my 16/3. There is an issue with the PDK valve gear, which Mike covers in his build thread and if I’d known his etch was still available I’d have used it - not tempted to put it right now though. Can I live with it? It runs so sweetly and when weathered..... the tender brake gear is another issue. Again, the kit is wrong here as the brake shoes should be different lengths but I can see a way to get round it. -

Thank you for the inspirational pictures of B16s and the various accounts. I will persevere with the DJH kit and hopefully use it as a layout engine. Certainly when compared to the PDK kit the boiler appears a little deficient which I think throws everything out of kilter. Attached is a pic of my PDK B16/3. Still awaiting buffers (supplier issues) and a proper whistle. It does run superbly though with a High Level box and one of their new coreless motors. -

Morning Tony I’ve recently acquired one of these , tempted by DJHs recent sale, and am somewhat perplexed. Clearly the kit is one of their earliest and has had few upgrades. The instructions still refer to Ks motor and Stephen Poole wheels. Two slabs of brass for the frames, screw spacers ( not drilled out to take the supplied screws), white metal crossheads , no brake representation etc etc. I like a challenge and am willing to give it a go but as DJH use a picture of one on Little Bytham in their advertising I wondered if you can give me any tips on the build and wether or not you replaced any parts.
