  1. Thanks for that reply. Just found a copy of that book online @ £ 3.69 inc postage so have bought it.
  2. In the early 1970's the BBC ran a segment on Tomorrow's World about freight wagons of the future. I think it was filmed on the Derby test track. Does anyone have details of this project?
  3. Just watching the Famous Five on BBC iPlayer. Much of the programme is railway footage, supposably on a pre second world war night sleeper. Can anyone explain the various train shots. they seem to be mixture of stock shots, bits on the NYMR and CGI. My own correction having looked the railway up the Dean Forest is the location not the NYMR,
  4. A comprehensive source of info' is to take out a subscription to Railway Modeller as you get a access to all their issues back to 1949. Number of adverts for Farish in those issues.
  5. Picking up a couple of points made in recent posts, sorry about the lack of quotes but using a tablet to reply. This obsession with opening doors on moving trains is not the main issue. Anyone who has spent time with slam door stock, either as guard, passenger or on the platform will know the big issues are: doors opening before the train comes to a halt, passengers attempting to board a train after the right-away has been given, rail tour passengers getting off at station stops which are not part of the public schedule, non railtour passengers trying to get on a railtour, passengers opening doors on the wrong side, doors left on the latch, etc...
  6. No one has addressed the second half of the issue. If you get cash to the seller how do you ensure they send the goods? You pay your money sellers says they have dispatched it, item never arrives would the police have the time for the matter?
  7. I know this is a detail but having climbed into many Mk1 carriages over the years, I was amazed at the ease at which the murderer (aka the train driver) got into carriage. I wish I knew his secret as I would only attempt the manoeuvre he made with a ladder and obviously not on a moving train. Life would be simpler with his super power.
  8. Next week's episode should be interesting The RAIB investigation into the runaway train with an unauthorized person in the cab.🤣
  9. Although I didn't start attending exhibitions until the start of the 1970's when my interest in railways was reignited and I had a salary. My first "exhibitions" would have been the annual birthday trip to see the Garages (autocorrect for Gamages) layout in the late 1950's.
  10. As you're looking for a fixed installation I would second @ColinK and suggest a local carpenter/joiner. You will need to make clear the specification of what wood you want for the supports and top.
  11. Noted -half my modelling time is working with 1/72nd scale Aircraft and vehicles, Indeed I will be using three of these to sit alongside the wagons. https://uk.airfix.com/products/wwii-usaaf-8th-bomber-resupply-set-a06304
  12. I did notice that you had a number of post-war transfers for these wagons in your range. All the references or the livery I have are copyright so I cannot post them here. I have sent you a copy of the relevant article by Wetransfer. It looks at Dapol based their "0" gauge model on one of these photo's. As such the Dapol 7mm model is a reasonable source for reference.
  13. I have looked at the normal suppliers without any success. I have a rake of 15 oil tankers to repaint as late WW2 examples. Although not all the wagons are 100% correct I would like to get the livery details right. So does anyone know of a source for the simple markings. As they are white I cannot print them myself. As an aside I might need a 1:1 scale set as well!
  14. I've used Foam board on a number of occasions both for structures and small baseboards. For baseboards I use a photo glue gun. The only issues I have had as some warping when I used water based paints also to get good joints cutting board vertically can be an issue. I use a couple of steel rulers on top of each other but special knives are available for cutting foam board.
  15. Bearing in mind the attention to detail with planes, Masters of the Air did not do too well with trains in episode 6,. Firstly a trip from Norfolk to Oxford on a train of Mk1's in carmine and cream hauled by a Southern loco'. Then as the POW's were loaded onto a train in Germany I remaked to Mrs Ruleone that the tender had a look of a GWR type and that the vans used looked British. The camera then panned round to show Didcot's coaling stage. However the CGI kreigsloco that passed was very well done.
