Really looking forward to seeing this at exhibitions again. Probably my favourite on the circuit as I love the idea the GC might have survived.

I wonder if Charwelton might have been reopened as "Daventry Parkway" in the mid 1980s had the London Extension survived? In my own enthusiastic but rather crude N gauge reimagining of the GC post 1990 I had 170s running to Leicester so an extra stop between Rugby and Brackley wouldn't have been unreasonable. In the 1980s Network SouthEast may have reached Leicester Central to preserve some stopping services - it reached Peterborough and Northampton IRL of course. A Leicester Central - Marylebone Network Express NSE service might just have ended up being the last stamping ground of the 50s or 47/7s.

You can have a lot of fun with this. It might be time to buy some red paint!

Thank you and yes we have had quite a few discussions around NSE and if it would have reached Charwelton and beyond! An interesting thought about Daventry Parkway!
Ps- please don’t mention class 50’s as we have enough trouble keeping them off running in the 80’s 😂😂 (on-going in house joke).

  2. With the fantastic news that we will be attending our home show this September (Darlington MRS) we are having a working weekend to fettle some issues from the last show and to upgrade the fiddle yard DCC panel connections!
Photos from and during the weekend will hopefully follow!

Here is another from the archive while you wait!-

Some great pictures there David,  green 40 in 75

The last on is actually on the down. Has the loco ran past the red?

Unusual for down  trains to use platform 1 but you have two pictures of it happening on here

It’s stood at D887 signal now T887 and still on the same gantry  (I think it’s an optical illusion so it’s not beyond the signal).
Ironically just today my train was routed into 1 northbound due to BTP attending a train that was occupying platform 4.

I think the thread brief has been more than fulfilled!  Fantastic lighting and depth of field!

Fabulous layout. There's a chap who produced a set of GC  timetables  based on an additional fleet of deltics , it's a interesting read I think I picked a copy up on eBay.

One of our group has also picked up a copy and we used it to look into some headcodes etc.

  6. One of the great parts of doing this project was the speculation of what would/should have been or would have actually happened if the line had stayed open!
Those decisions had to be made by ourselves as a group (with or without the blessings of many opinions on both this and other forums) taking into consideration operational features of the layout and modifications needed to the layout that we inherited!
Researching train headcodes and formations and flows using old timetables has also opened up a whole new world beyond model railways!

Now I know that I might just have a go at getting there, but, could you not have even just one loco with a proper number on it?, pretty please!!

    Mike.

I think they are all correct for “Charwelton into the 80’s’! -Might need a name/decade change to get your wish though 🤔🤔😜

I used to use a similar spreadsheet for my stock, I would colour the lines red for work needing done, orange for in works, green for complete and layout ready.

All my locos where blue though!

Quick tip if you are unaware, if you change the comma before 08768 to an apostrophe it'll show the numbers only, works with any leading zero.

Thanks for the tip! The spreadsheet is on a shared drive so each owner can update as required.

The colour coding is for who is the owner and is replicated over the other 6 pages for coaching stock/revenue freight/NPCCS/Departmental/DMU (I edited screen shot down to remove personal details and other columns that weren’t relevant to the post).

I was told many years ago by Paul Jones who Warley exhibition manager at the never make a joke with Pete Waterman using those infamous words Lucky, Lucky, Lucky.

Some years Pete Waterman went on to be a regular at Stafford Exhibition, chatting about model railways, and  even presenting the prizes etc.

    Terry

Perhaps it was just as well (lucky) I didn’t bump into him whilst at the show then 🤔🤔😂
