  1. With only a couple of weeks to Wigan show the layout has been erected and fully tested before it goes out!

plenty of jobs to complete including set up of the semaphore signals, repairs to points & refreshing of some of the scenic sections!

Ps- we also found a missing p-way Worker hiding in one of the trees after he must have come detached from ‘terra firma’ at the Perth show

Never thought of that Neil,  but a good possibility back then. Was BBCs fault as they kept showing rather red maestro 2.0i being ragged round blackbird leas in Oxford

I had a red turbo back then and had to be very careful where I left it

It was terrible around 89/90, I remember when I bought my XR2i it was one of the most stolen cars per % produced!

I had a removable HT lead from the battery along with a hidden ignition cut off switch and crooklock- took me longer to park up than anything else 😂😂

    Some interesting pictures today David

Just looking at the class 505 Altrincham unit there doesn't appear to be any multiple working jumpers or sockets on the front only a RCH lighting cable . Did these sets work in multiple?

In the last picture you have managed your to capture a very early montego Efi these are super rare now and had a digital talking dash in them

A quick search reveals it only possibly lasted another year as not taxed beyond Oct 1991

  5. I can only comment on the NYMR and having travelled with young children many times (albeit over 10 years ago as kids grown up) and latest journey yesterday.

Whitby - One of our favourite coastal spots! And as your based there you can explore at your leisure I guess!

Grosmont - the walk to the sheds via one of the oldest railway tunnels in the world is pushchair friendly but a little less so at the shed itself (shop is upstairs and underfoot a little uneven around the site but nothing too bad). Village lovely with pub/cafes and a model shop near the railway.

Goathland - (Heartbeats Aidensfield) short walk uphill but not steep into the picturesque village centre. Again pubs/cafes and usually a few Heartbeat themed vehicles and souvenirs to be found.
Levisham - a fairly remote station and probably not ideal for pushchairs but plenty of great walking routes but a trek to the actual village.
Pickering - lovely small market town. Railway station is right in the centre and great to access the many shops/pubs/cafes/restaurants/flea market and castle!

hope this helps! Ps-  If you want me to expand (if I can) just shout!

  6. 8-a-side football tonight and a celebratory beer after a 6-5 victory scoring 2 goals (extra bonus as not the oldest player on the pitch - 3rd oldest out of 16 😅). Pennine brewery - Black Forest dark ale 4%

  7. It’s a great debating point and a little digging I found this - which can be used to link the breweries water wise Hard/soft.
I was thinking more mineral and other content differences between counties but I guess they are linked.

We don’t need to de-scale our kettle so we’re soft (not in the head 🍻) here in Darlington at least.

Of course, it might be as many Lancashire beers are different to Yorkshire beers, which I generally prefer due to  water quality. But let's get this right, I want as wide a range of beers available to taste and enjoy as possible and the whole batch of Durham beers delivered to the Dog has missed the mark so anything that can be done to up their game is beneficial to us all.

Take the Wakatu NZPA, I love a NZPA, Hawkshead being there at the top and I had a Hophurst NZPA in Hebden Bridge last Friday - delicious, but a week after it went on, Wakatu is still there, I couldn't face another pint of it yesterday so I actually had 2 pints of cider instead - sacrilege.

On the way out, a friend showed me his half finished pint in a straight glass, it was dead as a dodo, no froth clinging to the sides of the glass, as appealing as a glass of cold tea. Hawkshead, Ossett Excelsius, Brewsmiths APA and other heavy hitters go in little more than a day in our pub.

I also tried a couple of pints of 28 Days Later (IPA), similarly unenthused by the flat taste when there are so many other medium strength beers we have that are zingers, e.g. Goose Eye Chinook, Vocation Bread and Butter and Pride and Joy, Ossett White Rat and Silver King, etc., again, these only last 2 days at max.

    Best wishes.

Sounds like there is a ghost somewhere in the machine!

Ps- Possibly not a county based water issue if Beers from the Osset brewery, Hawkshead & Brewsmiths are flying off the taps with being based in 3 different counties!
Edit- When Brown ale production was moved to Tadcaster it did change and that was blamed on the water if I remember rightly!

  9. I must admit I haven’t tried many of the Durham beers on tap but bottled they are always exceptional to my taste!
The only one I have seen in Darlington regularly on tap is Magus and is always spot on when I have previously had it.

I can definitely recommend HITC Sevens' content.

He certainly does his research and digs deeper into the problems with certain clubs more than other YouTubers and indeed journalists.

An interesting report and a fairly accurate account of proceedings!  Not correct though is the phoenix club information as we maintained our club history (formed 1883) and were allowed to retain the name after our re-formed (not new club) status was reviewed by the FA and then reinstated as Darlington FC 🎉 unlike Chester and Halifax etc unfortunately!

  11. Welcome from another Andy living in Darlington!

(I’m near to the former Barton/Merrybent branch but that’s less obvious now unfortunately as it’s under the A1[M]).

PS- When your not RM-webbing Pop along to the Darlington MRC at the Head of Steam!

  12. Playing indoor 5-a-side on one of the hottest days of the year requires a recovery strategy (water intake sorted) so a beer from the Hadrian Border Brewery- Northumbrian Gold 4.5% and very refreshing!
