  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. It's still light outside despite it being ten minutes to eight. Not a cloud to be seen today but according to the seaweed stranglers there's going to be rain tomorrow and even more rain bank holiday Monday.
  2. There is a film somewhere where a car was driven none stop for either 24 hours or several days. This was achieved with the use of a 'mobile pit stop', a special wide trailer* which the car was slotted into and the drivers could be changed, the car was also refuelled all while the car was moving. I think the car may have been a Jaguar but I can't be certain. I haven't been able to locate the film which would be from the 1950's or early 60's. *The trailer was U shaped with a platform that enclosed the front and sides of the car.
  3. I couldn't find anything on the Tubarao on Google but I came across this from a few years back. https://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2021/02/02/cargo-ship-breaks-in-half-off-turkey/
  4. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Still no let up from the arthritis though its not as bad as it was. Hopefully the warmer weather predicted for next weekend will make things better. Time to get things ready for dinner, whatever it's going to be depends on the best before date.
  5. He might have seen the river and stopped in time if he wasn't on his mobile phone.
  6. Another car chase, this time in a stolen car. The owners dog was in the car when it was stolen but was not seriously hurt when it crashed.
  7. There was a bit of a fuss in Tel Aviv a few years ago when several top end restaurants started serving what was called 'white beef'. It was in fact pork and the (mostly Jewish) patrons were fully aware of the fact.
  8. I am familiar with those arches as I drive through them several times a year. In fact the left hand arch is a couple of inches wider. Perhaps whoever planned the route wasn't aware of that fact and assumed the arches were equal. The arches vary between 32 and 40 feet in height.
  9. Paris (France) has a similar crossroads. https://nerdist.com/article/paris-impossible-intersection-no-entry/
  10. The *Gallows Corner viaduct is the one for drivers braking while going uphill. Here in Basildon the favourite trick is braking when approaching speed cameras even though they are below the limit. *Built in the 70's as a temporary structure, has been 'upgraded' at least twice since.
  11. I'm planning to visit the Chatham show on the 20th or 21st of July. That is the first weekend of the school summer break. I won't be driving there from Essex as it involves the Dartford crossing which will be chocker. Fortunately someone is thinking of hiring a coach if they get enough bums on seats.
  12. Do you have to ask? But whatever you do DON'T put that question to SWMBO.
  13. They have a bad reputation, are quite often uninsured and this:- https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68558464 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-68928464
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The arthritis is still playing up this morning so pills have been taken. Hopefully I'll be able to go to the toy fair at Rayleigh tomorrow and maybe even be able to visit a new model railway emporium nearby at Rawreth (open until 4 on Sundays). Like @polybear I've got heaps of washing to do so I'd better get on with it.
  15. IIRC the back door of a Land Rover is aluminium, as is the rest of the bodywork.
  16. I too have that problem. I have to sit in the car first and swing my legs in which requires a wide door. The biggest problem though is a high sill, I should imagine that a Freelander has a high floor and no sills. That is why I was going to upsize anyway from the Hyundai before it was written off. My present car has a much lower sill than most cars but the drivers seat is a bit on the low side so I'm looking for a suitable booster seat.
  17. Volks Electric Railway behind you.
  18. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The arthritis is playing merry hell this evening, I took a couple of co-codamols earlier and I will take a couple more before going to bed. I watched 'The Great Steam Adventure' on channel 5 earlier, not too bad and hats off to Peter Davison for steering an enormous traction engine through the narrow Lakeland roads, especially where there was a lot of traffic.
  19. Similar story here, I had just got my replacement car in February when one evening an idiot parked on my nearside decided to do a u-turn about twenty yards in front of me. I jammed on the brakes and only just stopped in time. I called him a Cupid Stunt (or something similar).
  20. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I'm not going out to Tess Coes until later when it stops persisting down, I've got a few things to attend to in the meantime.
  21. Carry on screaming was also one of the better Carry ons. As for sitcom, no one's mentioned 'Dad's Army' yet which must be one of the best if not the best British sitcoms. Only problem was that it wasn't allowed to retire gracefully but wheeled out every year by the BBC. The follow on, Allo Allo, wasn't as good but was better than some I could mention.
  22. Joseph Conrad incorporated many Asian seamen in his works.
