Shadow
There is a photo of New England here http://www.nrm.org.uk/ourcollection/photo?group=Liverpool%20Street&objid=1995-7233_LIVST_LS_640. It doesn't seem to compare with the OP. Regards That's looking from the other end. The links in posts 11 & 12 show the same location.
jonny777
Found a picture which seems to match the roof profiles and chimneys etc. New England Shed, Peterborough http://returntograntham.co.uk/loco-department-staff/new-photographs-from-the-1960s-at-the-loco/ Near the bottom of the page. That would also explain the presence of the class 47s. The closest one would appear to have been throwing oil around judging by the bodyside stain, and may have been taken off the Anglo-Scottish fitted goods given by the headcode which presumably ought to read 4S05? RRU
Thanks Border Reiver and 31A. That`s another one solved. Thanks for the link to the Six Bells Junction website, this has solved my next set of photo`s showing 60051. These are taken at Crewe 18-4-64. RRU
As these photo`s are grouped together I am assuming they were taken on the same visit to Crewe. Am I correct ? Peter

Shadow
Looks like "Lion" D0260. Built May 62, scrapped 65 Don't know location. http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_numbers.php?index=6&jndex=6&kndex=0&s_loco=
Shadow
More details for Lion here. https://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels/loco.htm?id=diesels/lion Why is Lion's number referred to as D0260, but in all the photo's I've seen so far it looks like D0280? bike2steam
Relying on a questionable 50 year memory, post#30 looks like Crewe South shed, with E3078 taken from the footpath leading to it.

Dave You are right, it does look like D0280 but the resolution of the scan is not good enough to get a clear look. Here`s some more to ponder over. RMweb Premium Richard E Posted October 11, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 11, 2015 More details for Lion here. https://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels/loco.htm?id=diesels/lion Why is Lion's number referred to as D0260, but in all the photo's I've seen so far it looks like D0280? Dave It's the font used http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_zoom_v3.php?img=0802050017200 Apparently the number is related to its works number.
RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted October 11, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 11, 2015 It's a fairly strong possibility that Lion is at Doncaster Works, date would be late 1963 or early 1964. It is carrying a lamp like it has been towed. What is that sitting on the track in front - a test rig of some sort?
JeffP
I don't know that this is right, but something about the position of Lion in relation to buildings behind it says maybe Stratford works? Is that a Class 23 behind it in the distance?
slilley
On the question of D0260 Lion it is a Class 24 in the background. First thought was possibly Finsbury Park as it was seen there a number of times during its brief spell on the ER. Judging by its dirty state, I would guess it was taken late on in its all too brief life. Could have been the first Class 47 if the dice had rolled differently. Marshall5
You are right, it does look like D0280 but the resolution of the scan is not good enough to get a clear look. Here`s some more to ponder over. Peter I believe the first three are at Horwich works (c1964?) The last one looks like a K3 on stationary boiler duty. There was an article recently in one of the mags (maybe 'Steam Beano') which listed where the last few survivors were being used as stationary boilers. Ray. RRU
Could the photo of Lion have been taken at the same place as these? They are together on the disc. But having said that, there is no order to them at all. Peter
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted October 12, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 12, 2015 If that is D3621 in the background of the last shot it spent a lot of it's early life at Doncaster. First shot looks like Doncaster Paint Shop?

First shot looks like Doncaster Paint Shop? Thanks for your reply. So it looks like I can group Lion, the K3 and these last three together at Doncaster works. There are some interior shots of Swindon works so are these taken there as well? Peter
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted October 12, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 12, 2015 There's a right mixture of locations in there - D7034 is at Old Oak (outside the factory) and D850 looks as if it is also at Old Oak. 92207 is possibly Southall but I can't be certain and the same for 5569. The rest area difficult and could either be Swindon or, less likely, Southall except for 6103 which I think is Southall.
bike2steam
2841 & 5531 also Southall, the Castle I believe is 7020 (?) at Southall, the loco in front makes me think of the pic I took of 5564 at Southall, post #50 in the 'Locomotive Portraits' thread. The King, maybe, a big maybe, 6028 also at Southall, originally stored at Old Oak, on its way to the cutters torch. edit - not 7020 (that had a double chimney) - keep looking Paul, it's a tall pot / safety valve cover - more likely 4080 or 5002, someone else will confirm. Marshall5
The 14xx is 1442 as originally displayed in the open in Tiverton c 1970. IIRC this was opposite the former station. It is now in Tiverton Museum. Ray.
