Sutton's Locomotive Works class 24

They did have D5098 and D5107 with the "correct" number of grilles, but both appear to have sold out now. They may have had small yellow warning panels, but it would not be difficult to paint those out. As it stands, all of D5000, D5016 and D5017 have the extra grilles fitted to many, but not all of the pilot batch. Additionally, both D5016 and D5017 have the distinctive Athermos axleboxes.

Ah, so I should've bought D5098 or D5107, except they were sold out before I decided what I was doing with my blue 24 - which I would always need for the "non-valanced" chassis which also has correct SKF axleboxes. I wrongly thought all the green bodyshells with the end doors were the same. We live and learn, at least I bought D5000 as DC so not as much wasted cash as it could've been.

I now think I should've just bought a 32-430B... I don't know the intricate detail differences of this class anywhere near well enough despite trawling flickr for reference photos.

SO according to Facebook there's an announcement being made this weekend at York!

This only leaves us 3 days to get over excited, make futile, pointless and over emotional, often heated arguments about why it must be a (insert name of lost cause here) locomotive, only to find out that it isn't any of the things any of us said it MUST be, and slink off to our corners demoralised and broken.  Cue the usual suspects to say with glee, "I won't be buying any of that!"

All I would like is a 24/1 or class 25 of any description !But it may be more class 24 variants!

Hope it's not a 25... as daft as it sounds I bought the 24 as I wanted a 25, and given the exceptional sound quality I thought it'll pass for a 25 haha.

This is actually one manufacturer's announcement that I am genuinely excited about. Anything blue with TOPS numbers will be fine by me :)

Me too (excited), but it's got to be green and a former inhabitant of Inverness.  :)  :)

And 24 073 with centered headcode discs. Which I have already done! Kev.

edit - and now maybe 24 090, which I have also done! I have voted for a Highland 24/1 even though I'd rather have a 25/0. :scratchhead:

I must admit a 24 doesn't really fit the place/era I'm modelling, but I don't care. I'm a huge fan of my 24. I've recently been upgrading/updating the sound in some of my other locos, but my SLW 24 is still the best sounding loco on the layout. And it completely looks the part too. I was a bit concerned as to what I'd think of the main bodyside grilles, as they didn't look quite right in some of the photos I'd seen. Now that I've got one, I can't say I've noticed, the loco is that good.

A 25 next, please SLW. I'd be in the market for a few of those.

My guess is that the latest announcement is likely to be a variant of the 24 though.

Will be interested to see what is announced at York. Will be there on the DEMU stand on the Sunday. A 24/1 or 25 would make sense, but a curveball is equally likely i expect.

In the meantime I've found the photos from Scalefour North of the SLW 24s on display:

I'm eagerly awaiting my two on order (D5000 and D5017 (changed from D5016)).

I am just going to add to the superlatives about this loco!

In accordance with the 'Mission Statement' Suttons have, I've altered both my engines identities.

Can I recommend the excellent 24/25 website. I used this in conjunction with my own photos with great success.

I await with interest the announcement at York.

                               Chris.
