Mickleover Model Railway Group Presents

Derby Model Railway Exhibition

7th & 8th May 2016

Saturday 10.30am - 5.30pm
Sunday 10.00am - 4.30pm    (As with many shows it will be less busy on Sunday)

Admission £7 (accompanied children free)

For the second time at our amazing new venue - THE ROUNDHOUSE

The Roundhouse is now part of Derby College but started life in 1839 as part of the North Midland Railway's Derby workshops, later becoming well known as part of Derby Loco Works before eventual closure and dereliction. A Grade 2* listed building, The Roundhouse has now been fully restored as can be seen from the photo below.

The Roundhouse is now part of Derby College and has been subjected to a multi million pound restoration to form the perfect exhibition venue as can be seen above. Their website gives a lot more information about the history of the building, and the restoration which led to the reopening at the end of 2009. Of course for those travelling by train, it is right next to Derby Station !
http://roundhouse-events.co.uk/ (have a look at the 360 virtual tour)

To see a few photos from last year's show see here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/95551-derby-the-roundhouse-9-10-may-2015/?p=1883834

We were very surprised at the numbers through the door last year although we appreciate that some of the visitors were perhaps there to see inside the building for the first time. There were many positive comments here on RMweb  http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/95551-derby-the-roundhouse-9-10-may-2015/page-1  as well as some constructive criticism which is to be expected when using a venue like this for the first time. We have learnt from that and so has the Roundhouse Team which should mean there will be some improvements this time.

As organisers the biggest benefit is being able to gain access to the building on Friday night as last year virtually everything came in on Saturday morning - this has come at an additional cost but it's worth paying the extra. The success from last year has also meant that we now have a three year rolling contract with part of a five figure sum going towards deposits for 2017 and 2018 - it's a huge investment for the future and we rely on you, our visitors, to help to cover those costs !

Further information will be posted in the next few days as I have now received the list of confirmed layouts and traders but it needs to be reformatted to fit on here better - several well known names there and for some it's their first visit to a Derby show. Look out for adverts with the details in magazines and updates here on RMweb.

See you at the show if not before.

Looking forward to it

Thanks - and I hope all goes well for your return to Harvey Hadden this weekend. I hope to be there but the timing (and which day) depends on plans made by the other half !

Of course Alex and Co will be there with Farkham - will you have a message for them on the roof.  That's a reference to a bit of friendly rivalry between the two football teams as seen here  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-35755475

Hello

Thanks Mike. Don't worry I'm used to it, ears permanently being abused. I'll tell him to have a go at Alex instead.

As mentioned above, Alex and I have managed to broker a deal to get Albion Yard to this years show.

Really pleased to finally get the deal done!

So that we don't upset all of our other exhibitors can I just say that I have been in touch with Alex who has confirmed that the deal with Paul is the same deal as everyone else and he isn't getting the Penthouse Suite at the hotel or a chauffeur driven car to the venue and he'll get his tea in a plastic cup just like everyone else.

Tee hee, absolutely!

For a good few years I had promised Alex that I'd bring Albion Yard to the Derby Show. Due work commitments and other show clashes we'd not been able to make it happen before it was retired a few years back. I saw Alex a few weeks back at Lincoln show and in the course of chatting it turned out with some help, I could make this year work. The deal 'brokered' was that if Alex could squeeze us in at such late notice for this years show, we'd bring the train set along.

So no, no biz jets, dancing girls or only blue smarties in the dressing room. However we do get to show the layout at a brilliant venue, at one of the east midlands best shows and we're looking forward to it.

hi,

just come across the advert in the Railway Modeller for the show and one of the photos I sent Alex of the layout.

Best think about getting it out of its storage and giving it a play operating session to check it and try to jog the memory for the timetable :scratchhead:

Really looking forward to the show.

Cheers

Simon
