47606odin
Well, I am making a move up to the grown up scales. Having been modelling OO for many years, and becoming snowed under with rolling stock and everything else, I stopped modelling. I’d walk into my room, look at everything and walk out again, then plop in front of the telly I made a drastic decision, I looked at my Crompton which was a shelf queen, and decided it was time. The OO was to go. Everything. Years of work but it had stalled and going nowhere. I had started work on my 33 last year converting it to construction sector, and it had stalled because I didn’t have room to progress it. I also was struggling with the cant rail stripes, so I had given up. So, with renewed vigour, and whilst clearing out my OO, I was given a tip with masking and finally I had the result I wanted So, this got me planning. I lived in Tonbridge and commuted to Selhurst, Waterloo and Slade Green during this period of my railway career, so as it is a location and traffic I can remember, I have decided I will be attempting part of Hither Green TMD, with Channel Tunnel class 33’s, class 60, and hopefully 56 in construction sector livery to service the trains for the construction of the Chunnel This won’t be a quick project, but as I go, I will put updates here Edited January 10, 2021 by 47606odin
47606odin
I intend to have a few wagons which would be seen around the PAD to trip in and out of the shed, so I bought a Heljan squid and OAA during the sale at Hattons, and over the last 2 days have weathered them ready for when I start the physical layout build after my OO Upper Walmington Layout moves on to pastures new
Father Dougal
Very nice weathering on the wagons. Don't forget to paint the buffers in black on the OBA. I don't think they were ever red. Dougal.

I don't think they were ever red. Dougal. Yes, they are not quite finished yet, little bits to do, but some were red, and i guess that would depend on what depot painted them, as i have only found a photo of this wagon in brown, i will probably paint them black Edited September 16, 2018 by 47606odin
Lyddrail
Interesting project. The 33 & OAAs look very good. You can remove the yellow air pipes as they were removed before your period. See pic below. Cheers.
Andrew P
Great Start, I did the same last Month and sold my OO Layout (Kings Moreton) and almost 40 Locos, most with Sound, and about 300 items of Rolling Stock. I now have Seven Mills and Dore End and feel the New start will be good. I wish you well with this project, terrific work on the 33 as well, nice period and Livery. DC100080 (1) PW.jpg Cheers. thanks for that, i will bear that one in mind. i am considering the internal user TTA wagon that was there too, but JLTRT closing hasn't helped with that as they did a kit for one that i could have used, and yes, single piped by then Edited September 16, 2018 by 47606odin
47606odin
A slight setback, and thats not unusual considering i am in Australia i was going to purchase some Tim North baseboards to save me time, but Australian Border Force won't let them through customs so he can't send them to me. ah well, it looks like i will have to construct my own again. it'll take longer, but it will be done. 47606odin
Well, yesterday a former colleague friend of mine dropped into Hither Green, and managed to grab some details of the existing side of the shed, especially the roofWhat surprised me was the roof trusses appear to be preformed concrete beams bolted together. I was expecting steelAnd the girders appear to be the same as my OO varigirders that I have, and appear to be the right size luckily enoughAnd here’s some more Edited September 21, 2018 by 47606odin

47606odin
Well, this is the theme of the depot First side of logos done. I was initially panicking as the logos were too big, then I realised I bought some for my 60 too. That was a relief
D6775
The Construction sector does look well on those 33's, a livery often overlooked. Looks very smart. Al.
47606odin
Well, today’s modelling session was cut short by a phone call asking if I wanted to drive real trains for some extra money. An offer I couldn’t refuse, as it will free me up to buy some modelling materials However, I did achieve the sector logos on the other side of the crompton
47606odin
Well, my 33 has an identity. The reason I have chosen 050 is because it was in triple grey, with Oast House plates and no headlight. It’s surprising how different the few construction sector locos actually were. The condition I am doing 050 is after it’s new cab was fitted at Stratford, with blue 73A shed plates. Also of note is I had to chop off the bottom blue square of the sector bar, as working on photos I realised they did too because there wasn’t room for it
47606odin
It’s officially a Hither green loco. Plate attached

47606odin
Plates now fitted on this side But no, I couldn’t live with the size of those numbers on the front Order placed with Fox, the only issue is they’ll take about 2 weeks to arrive I suppose I can finish off picking out details on my 2 open Wagons Edited September 22, 2018 by 47606odin
E3109
Hi Odin, fascinating project and am I right in assuming you're building a model of the depot itself? Looking forward to your updates.
47606odin
Hi Odin, fascinating project and am I right in assuming you're building a model of the depot itself? Looking forward to your updates. Yes, but not the whole depot I intend to build 3 roads of the old steam shed, not sure which side yet, but I should be able to make it big enough to house 9 33’s, but I won’t be buying 9 33’s, but still making room clearing out my OO stuff to allow me to convert scales. In between times I shall get on with my 33, 60, and slightly out of place 45 and wagons Edited September 22, 2018 by 47606odin
E3109
Nice one sir, I also appreciate that your task is made a little bit harder by being in WA (got a few ex BR mates working over there BTW, Buzz Lightyear ring a bell AKA Ian Jones)? Had an idea they'd block baseboard imports, thanks for confirming that's indeed the case. Edited September 22, 2018 by E3109
rob D2
I’m always amazed by the number of people down under modelling UK stuff. I guess a lot were emigrates rather than Aussies though

47606odin
Okay people, need opinions on compromises. Due to the length constaints of my room, I need to make a decision. Having got the tape measure out, and printed some Peco track templates, I will need to compromise on something. The part of the yard at Hither Green I am modelling is on a curve feeding the shed, and I was going to force this effect using curved points. I can fit this in, but it will mean shortening the shed. This will mean I will only get the length to store one large loco or 1 pair of 33’s per line, instead of 2 and 3 respectively. This obviously will diminish the shed but retain the flow of the track. The alternative is, I will use straight points, which are shorter, this will save the idea of creating space within the shed, and it’s effect, but will lose the flow of the yard and make it more boxy One thing to consider I suppose, is if we move to a house with a larger train room, I could always extend the shed easier than relaying the yard, and if I have a smaller shed, I’m less likely to try and fill it, saving many $$$$$
