Is C & L finescale the only place to get 4mm machined switch blades?

Recommended Posts

6 or 8 inch 2nd cut to rough it out and finish with wet & dry.

Agree with this, I have both number 2 & 3 files, some shown as medium and fine, then polish with wet and dry, Sometimes needle files also help in finishing off

With the files ensure they have a safe edge, also when finishing off I have a thick metal bar to support the rail when working on it

Both the EMGS and Scalefour Soc supply switch blade filing jigs, @ £30 for a jig that does A, B, C & D blades are easy to use and pay for themselves in no time

I was going to say "it depends how many you need to make" - but then I noticed C&L are asking £14.40 for a pair of blades these days, so the return on investment for the jig happens quite quickly!

Few pence of rail used, to be fair to C&L, theirs are machined and as the work is out shopped there are two sets of profit and the government take £2.88

Still I am happy to make my own, just takes a couple of mins once you get the hang of making them
