I liked the switch from blue era to steam era as all of a sudden everything looked far more interesting. :good_mini:

Your Mk.I coaches have a very prototypical flush-sided look about them and so I guess you have fitted etched brass sides yeh? The Period II LMS Diner compo is one I've yet to build so I was interested to see this vehicle. The MPD looks a tad overcrowded though, a casualty of compression.

Where have all the trains gone?

P1050300as.jpg

Time to change back to steam and early diesel era. All the track needs a clean first though. Only around 175 yards of it.

This is one great layout for two era's but may i suggest an idea to you? how about adding some greenary (grass) along the tracks so it looks a bit more aged. This is just an idea (no offence intended!) that i will use on my layout once i get it up and running when i have moved out of my mums home.

How about getting the track and ballast airbrushed?

It will soon be time to move the layout on a bit in terms of period, with the appearance of yellow panels and disappearance of most of the crimson/cream stock and some steam classes. Time for some more photos.

A new Bachmann 03:

Blue Pullman - the next time a Midland set appears on the layout it will, hopefully, be the new Bachmann one instead of this one:

A few more.

Firstly a very full station:

Two views of RU prototype W1900 - a Bachmann model, which is of a standard RU, but with two windows on the corridor side altered by Brian Kirby to bring it closer in appearance to the prototype:

First outing today for some Bachmann BGs repainted plain crimson and plain maroon by Brian Kirby - just to make sure Bachmann introduce these livery variants next year.

Also a test run for a Hornby Met-Cam unit with repainted ends, also by Brian. Still needs end detailing added and out of place period-wise on the layout at present:

The unit modelled is the one that was used on a tour over what was left of the GC London Extension shortly before closure in 1969. Here is the real thing at Arkwright Street:

More new toys to play with.

D823 having its first service run. I'm not keen on the lights as both cabs light up on DC. Neither cab would normally have the lights on in operation (so far as I am aware).

I presume the Bachmann coupling bar hooks over the wire across the loco buffers.....?

Some interesting coaching stock on this layout too.

The bar across the buffers is to receive a sprat & winkle coupling, which I use at the ends of coaching stock rakes and on wagons (though not all wagons otherwise I would be here for the rest of time fitting them). Tension locks are used within rakes for convenience and flexibility.

Hi Robert

Excellent layout and great photos. I'm a member of your coaching stock group and hadn't realised you were a modeller also. It's great to see some of your coaching stock in model form too and since joining the Yahoo group I must admit to becoming quite fascinated by the many variations of stock on the BR North Eastern region to the extent I have purchased my first ever coach book when visiting the shop on the Bluebell in October. Thanks for the continued inspiration.

Cheers

Tony

Holy smokes, another example of superb modeling. How big is this layout and can I assume its OO scale? Also is it DCC controlled?

Dave

Apologies for the delay in replying. 25' 4" x 10' in its own building. Yes, it is OO, using Peco Code 75 track, including around 100 points. Normal, old-fashioned, DC with lots of wires (all done by Brian Kirby). Lots of other things in life have intervened over the past eight months, so the layout has had little attention. Maybe 2012 will be different.

Layout still not receiving the attention it deserves but I have managed to restock it to move it into the early 1960s and give a few new models an outing. Here are a few images from today:

Lion and D5705 make their debut.

Yellow panels invade the diesel depot.

A change of DMUs - the Craftsman 114 conversion looks rather basic compared to the new Bachmann Derby Lightweight.

Lion again:

Class 25 on parcels vans.

Co-Bo again. This really needs some weathering.
