swisspeat
Looks superb! Very very well done. I passed the real building in Thun last week and thought about your project! i have used Scalescenes sheets several times. They can give a superb result but just be careful to seal them once you are finished with Matt varnish. If they are left untreated they are suspectible to water staining even from a drop or two. regards, peter

Do you brush paint on the varnish or spray on? I assume Matt varnish? Best regards, Jeremy

swisspeat
Hi Jeremy, if the area area is large I spray matt varnish. If it is small I use a wide brush. I guess you’ll need a big can or air brush! definitely test it out first on a hidden area and leave overnight to dry before moving on the project when you are happy. all the best! peter

I spent some time trying to get the main red colour of the building as close to the prototype as possible. Whilst on a trip to our local heritage railway and browsing the model railway shop, I found a pot of railmatch BR crimson which I thought might just be the ticket. I painted a small area and left to dry. It looked rubbish to be honest, so back to the drawing board and decided to get out all of my railmatch paints that were a shade of red. I then decided to mix up a little rail red and BR crimson together….and hey presto, I had something which was finally going to work. So here are the results. There is still loads to do with all the roof detailing, third coat of yellow on the doors, glazing, canopy over the platform area….and the list goes on! For the platform surface, I’m going to experiment with some scalescenes concrete paper and see how it comes out. Has anyone used this, and if so, how did you find it? Anyway, here are some progress photos. Best regards, Jeremy Superb work. That could be a store bought kit. Nice job. 1

cornish trains jez
Evening all, Having spent the last couple weeks dipping in and out of the build of my second building, I decided to return to the postal depot and make a start in the canopy which runs right across the entire front of the building. This particular part of the building will be built in situ but not glued into place so that I can remove it for spray painting as it will be in the same red as the rest of the building. Once finished and painted, I will then glue into position. I’ve built up a set of joists which fit nicely in between the two sheets of plastic I used for the first floor base. These are 2mm square strip with the ends slightly shaved down so they fit snug into the gap. Photo below. I then removed them and added them to the pre-cut base of the canopy. I’m trying to make this a relatively strong part of the building in case it gets knocked while cleaning the track that will run alongside it. Here is the progress so far. I’m also using the 2mm strip to build up the inside structure of the canopy. On top of this will be some sheet more plasticard to represent the roof of the canopy. The front and sides will have the same plated effect like below the windows of the building. At the moment the canopy can be slid in and out so I can work on it. Still lots to do! Cheers Cav! I'll be adding the window panes in with a smoked effect clear plastic behind. The only interior I'll be modelling will be just inside the entrance to the depot on the side as I've found a couple pictures on google earth which someone has taken...very fortunately! cornish trains jez
Evening all, Bit more progress on the canopy. Now finished and primed. The edge will be painted in to the same red as the rest of the building. The top will be weathered and the underside sprayed to a concrete colour (not that it will be seen very easily!). Few progress shots. Starting to really come together now! Best regards, Jeremy 12
cornish trains jez
Afternoon all, Just thought I would add a photo of some latest locos I've just added to the fleet. Re620's from Hobbytrain in SBB Cargo and Xrail Alliance liveries, very nice indeed and very pleased with them. These are the versions with the air conditioning. Have a good weekend. DavidMcKenzie
Hi Jeremy, Nice to see an update on the layout. shanks522
Hi Jez, Glad to see work resuming, one of my favourite N gauge builds! Also looking forward to the point-work construction. Graham. 1
swisspeat
Looking jolly good! I passed the Thun postal depot 4 times this week and saw no rail wagons in evidence. Road vehicles were there but not rail ones. The siding looked a bit weedy too though it has always done so! Peter 1
