These meetings normally take place at 11am on a Saturday in the UK to discuss various topics pertaining to model railways. The next talk will be on 3D printing, so please join us if this is of interest to you and you have anything that you can bring to the computer. Links to the talks are usually posted on a Friday. Just click on the link and you will be invited in by the host.

Meetings usually take place at 11am on a Saturday in the UK and a link to the meeting will be posted in this forum as well as the Western Thunder forum. Each week I like to have a different topic and so far for the past three meetings,  personal projects, painting and lining and weathering have been discussed. The next discussion will take place on the  10th of October and the topic will be 3d printing. You do not need to download Zoom to join the meeting but obviously if you want to be seen you will need a device with either a built in webcam or one attached. If you need a webcam purchase one online they aren’t very expensive. Attached is an example of one of the past links I have posted. Just click on the underlined link and it will take you to the meeting where you will be held until I invite you in.

So is this just like a Facebook live, but via Zoom? Or is it a tutorial, or a general discussion, like a virtual club meeting? Is it practical, or what..?

it might be a good idea and I might be interested. But I have no idea.

Can't click on a link in a jpg

Bill it is just an example of what the link will look like, it's not active. When I post on Friday the link will be active and take you to the meeting. Might post a test link on Thursday for poeple to try out if they aren't familiar with zoom or click here to watch a tutorial.

If you want to utilise RMweb to publicise an event I think we deserve to know who you are, what the organisation may be, the intent of any meetings and whether there is any commercial element to any part of it as it sounds you may have approached members ordering services. This is against forum rules.

Dear Moderator

I am a railway modeller who has been modelling for 50 years and a member of the Cardiff 4mm club. I do not make a living from 3D printing and offer a small service to friends and other modellers who wish to have small parts printed. I started doing these meetings on Western Thunder and thought I would branch out to other forums to get a wider audience. I do not advertise my service in the meetings and have no intention of doing so. Because the pandemic has confined so many of use to our homes I thought it would be a good idea to bring like minded modellers together to discuss various issues pertaining to model railways. If this does not meet with your requirements I will continue conduct my Zoom talks on Western Thunder where I believe some of your members are already members. Please click on the links I have posted to get a flavour of what my zoom talks are like.

I thought publishing my videos would be showing my transparency and I apologize if I caused any confusion with regards to this. Thank you for giving me the go ahead and I look forward to engaging with your members.

Here is the you tube link to the discussion on 3D printing that took place on the 10th of October that is available to RMweb subscribers. The discussion itself became quite focused on the technical aspects of 3D printing which hopefully will have not dissuaded any modellers from purchasing a 3D printer. I will hold another session on 3D printing that will deal less with the technical aspects of 3d printing and more with the outcomes and experiences modellers have experienced using 3D printing. Bring you 3D printed models to the computer and share your stories behind them.
