RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 12, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 12, 2020 The evening images once again, and Knight of Thistle is still rolling through. But by the time our man on the bridge has taken this the A3 will be getting worked hard again. I'm pleased with this, as it is the closest I've yet got to the prototype angle which gets the stock in the Midland sidings in the right place.

For men and boys, weren't they trunks back in the 50s? Certainly true in the early 60s. Swimming costumes were for girls.

I do love that angle, for a range of reasons, the full length of train, the lovely flowing lines of the track work and the clutter of buildings, signals and poles that makes for a painful photo editing but magical skyline. cheers Tony 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 13, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 13, 2020 Another week under way, but at PN it is still Friday.Probably. The engine change on the Birmingham-Ely has taken place, and Champion Lodge is heading away towards final destination. Another view that works much better in the morning light. This, of course, is a very familiar angle, and reminds me that yet another job that needs doing is to get more crews in the cabs of the locos.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted April 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 13, 2020 Ah, there's the old girl sneaking in.... Love that shot above with all the skyline stuff, being an infrastructureholic. Proper railway like, as the saying goes.

I can do a lot of work on it, or very little, and the difference at normal viewing size is minimal, and not worth the effort. If you blow these shots up to 200% or more you will find an absolute mess, but I don't guarantee anything over 67%, and at that, let alone the size I post them, I think it gives a reasonable amout of sharpness for the distance it would be from the camera in reality. 1
RMweb Premium Bogie Posted April 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 13, 2020 I suggest you look at the tree behind the signal box. I think someone has been running amok with an axe.

I think someone has been running amok with an axe. That is just temporary- only been like it for about five years. Just some trees lying on their sides, and I left a trunk sticking out last time I moved them to take a photo. Eventually I shall make up my mind how to finish off this area.

No doubt I shall move it again and then forget though.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 13, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 13, 2020 Afternoon so far spent cleaning wheels of the Heart of Midlothian and Elizabethan stock. 21 coaches in all. I won't say it was enjoyable doing it, but the knowledge that it has been done certainly is. Eight express rakes now completed. Cup of tea time, and another image to go with it. I think a train should feature this time, in the form of the Cleethorpes-KX, Immingham B1 hauled of course, as always.

A bit of an experiment with something more widescreen. I quite like it.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 13, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 13, 2020 Moving over to Platform 6, we find the disreputable Duke of Rothesay at the head of the 1130 to Edinburgh. And back at PLatform 2, the succession of arrivals continues with another Ivatt 4 bringing in a train from Yarmouth Beach.

Funnily enough, as each of Gilbert's A4s come in for attention to their factory finish and indeed rework, it's one of the first things I remove! Currently have 'Golden Fleece' here, which has already been shorn of said item. 60013, however, was one of my very early ones, which I did on a site visit. Judging by the fact it's got that dropped-out piston rod, I think it's going to get a little more attention than just the speedo! This all hinges, of course, on when we're allowed any form of non-essential travel again; nobody really knows the answer to that..... (and I'm not going to speculate on that here!) 7
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 14, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 14, 2020 Another beautiful sunny morning, so more early photography is likely. I have a feeling though that dust more than half an inch thick should be dealt with, so that may take priority. OK, slight exaggeration there. As always though, start the day with pictures. We commence with a J6 bringing a trip working along the Down slow. with a nice view of a Gresley FK thrown in. Then it is time for the Flying Scotsman, which today has one of those new fangled diesel things. A bonus picture shows that these EE type 4s did have a certain presence to them.
CUTLER2579
Just love the Gresley FK, they always strike me as elegant in the Blood & Custard livery.Mind you I think the Thompson brakes look good in lined maroon. Agree about the EE type 4 it does look impressive side on. Keep Safe.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 14, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 14, 2020 Elevenses = photo. Last one on the progress of D209. Not very successful. If I wished to include the front end of the A2/1, I should have found a way to get it in focus. Not to mention the water crane growing out of the smokebox. 27

Or I'm a bit short of the still life images at present. Actually it was an opportunity to clear the last image from a folder that decided it. Did diesels fail? Really? I thought they were the new dawn, the answer to all BR's problems. 1
