A letter arrived the other day from Severn Models in were 2 more envelopes, one was Platforms and Step Ladders. I've used PH Designs and will again for some items for the TMD but I figured I'd try these as well.

They are a bit fiddly but once you get a rhythm going fold up nicely

Several weeks ago I received form Scale Model Scenery some N scale catch pits, these are very simple to put together and add that little something between the rails in the station,

Just need to bed them in a bit, rather than sitting on the ballast.

Downloaded a new Backscene from ModelRailwaysecenery.com; it is actually supposed to work on Woodland Heath TMD but seems to work well behind Gloucester Road station.

Health and safety arrived today and said that the safety railings at Gloucester Road TMD were not adequate.  Some more were constructed from scalemodelscenery.

With temps down in the -2 to -20f range over the past few days we have had several pipes freeze, luckily non burst. In between thawing pipes  put together the Layout Name Plaque from Scalemodelscenery.com.  Nice kit that looks really good.

By the way temp hit 33f felt like a heat wave today.

Been awhile since there has been an update, life seems to get in the way. However I've managed to operate the trains when a few spare minutes show up.  Whilst way traveling these beauties arrived.

They really are beautiful. If Dapol were to be graded based solely on looks I would say these are the best locos to date in N. They are weighty, parts bag comes prefixed, livery application is excellent, they run well out of the box, slow speed is fantastic. I set them on the layout and simply stared at them. So that is the good news.

Now for the niggles. 68010 was missing a door handrail, found it in the packaging (easy fix); 68002 was missing a handrail under the windscreen, cant find it anywhere.  This too can be fixed but a bit annoying.  All in all minor issues. However, I decided that locos need to pull trains. 68010 was put at the head of 5 GFarish  NSE MK1s, straight and level no problem.  My mainline has a slight incline (i mean slight) on a curve and the train came to a stop with lots of wheel slipping. This was train was reduced to 3 coaches, it ran fine but had to increase power to get it around the curve. If you drive the train ie increase power as you approach the incline it does much better (an aim at realism?) One does have to drive it, cant set power and forget it or they do struggle loaded on a curved incline,  68002 did the same thing with 4 GF YGAs.

So to sum up these are fantastic lookers, a real step up for N; however they do have a few issues with parts and running.

Something new is lurking in the shed

and then over the level crossing

Having done some close up photos, my only real critical point of the molding is the cap over the bufferbeam, is large compared to the prototype. Again it is a beautiful model and when one needs to be picky to find fault that says something.

I also have 68010 and am thinking of getting 68002. Might even be able to persuade my other half to buy it as she likes the DRS livery

It has been a busy time here in NH; raising a teenager and a preteen have taken up a lot of free time.  Between my teenager learning to drive and cycling with my preteen I grab a few minutes to "play" trains and work on little projects.

My youngest has taken to MTN biking and Ive tried to go out with him as much as possible.  Now Im a road bike cyclist and have had to adapt to MTN biking, they are very different skill sets. So I do 30 miles on the road and when he comes home from school Ill do 10 more on the trails with him.  We also did downhill biking which was mad but brilliant fun here. My teeanger has just reached first degree Black Belt ranking in Kempo and is learning to drive, which is an interesting experience for him and us. He is also learning to drive a manual, which do seem to to be 2 separate challenges

Anyway trains

60054 was seen out and about yesterday.

Ive also been slowly working on a small portable layout that uses boards from Scalemodelscenery. For the eagle eyed viewers it does rather resemble the peco track plan of Railhead

Jordan also used some of the same boards and has been building a US layout that is based on Milford NH, just down the road from us.

Ordered an ID backscene and slotted it in behind Gloucester Road Station.  This was a test as I had ordered the back scene for my portable layout, however this look very good so another order is on the horizon.

Magnificent!

Can you do a panoramic photo or video of the entire layout as that would be great to see all your work together?

Do you still not have a fiddle yard for continuous running and accessing the Freightliner/ TMD?
