Dalesway-DBS/Sunters Road & Rail Depot, Modern OO.

Sunters

Recommended Posts

A fictional company, Sunters which derived from the late Heavy Haulage company from North Yorkshire that folded in the 1980's.

I have reborn the company, who now specialise in Road/Rail transfers, Traction/Rolling stock repair, LGV repair & Heavy Haulage.

The fictional company Sunters, has now been taken over by DB Schenker, but will retain some of their original identity.

The layout is approx 8' x 2' DCC control, Peco Setrack, LED Lighting, Kit bashed buildings.

I have been building this layout for just over two years now, I'm expecting it to take another couple, at least, I don't like to rush!

This layout, any Loco's, Rolling stock & Road vehicles is fictional. Although some aspects are prototypical, some are not, I have an artistic/modellers licence (Please PM me if you want to see a copy!)

To get things started I'll post some of the photo's taken so far.

Any comments/criticisms will be well received!

Enjoy!

Wow, not one comment so far!

I'm very surprised, I must be doing something right then, or all you other members just don't like my first layout and are too kind to give any negative (or even positive) response!

Any feedback would be welcome.

Thanks, Sunters.

Hi,

I will happily be the first person to comment on this! I think this is a fantastic layout, I particularly like the lorries and other road vehicles you have. Where did you get the lorries from? Really looking forward to an update. Keep up the goodwork. I think I spotted some containers on your shelf? If so, can't wait to see them on the layout.

Kind regards

Chris

Spotted this yesterday and like the mix between railway and road transport. Will be watching progress with interest as the standard of some heavy haulage vehicles is almost as good as the railway side. So long as there is a balance mix it should be a splendid layout particularly if loco's have sound fitted.

Regards

Philip

Thank's all for your comments.

@ Chris, the trucks are modded/re-painted Oxford/Corgi/Cararama, with parts from Kibri/Herpa. The containers will make some appearances, as I have a few Intermodals.

@ Philip, sound locos are 1x 60 EWS, 1 x 08 EWS, 1x 37 DBS, 2 x 66's EWS & DBS.

Most of the vehicles & accessories are not fixed down, as they will be placed in different areas for cameo scene photography (not playing with ! :secret: )

Cheers, Chris (Sunters)

Hi Chris,

Really impressed with your code 3 lorries mate. I would love a flatbed trailer one, fancy making me one? :wink_mini: Keep the updates coming. Any ideas for a container lorry?

Kind regards

Chris

Thanks Chris, I am in the process of repainting some locos too, a Class 66 in Sunters colours, a Class 43 pair in East Coast & a Full Intercity 225 rake is in the planning.

As for the Flatbed, it's a Knightwing kit, bashed with some Plastistrut, Wills decking/checker plate & Oxford Diecast wheels, I may make some more to sell, I'll let you know.

On the workbench is a container trailer, I would like to one day make a PH Designs one, but I'll have to learn Brass work first!

It's coming along very nicely Chris! An interesting concept, well executed.

Just one (minor) criticism. I would have used longer radius points rather than Setrack ones.

steve

Thank's Steve, If I had the knowledge that I have now, when I started, I would have used longer radius points!

I'm considering building my own P4 for the next layout, in a good few years time.

Is the trailer scratchbuilt or from a kit?

See post #13, As for the Flatbed, it's a Knightwing kit, bashed with some Plastistrut, Wills decking/checker plate & Oxford Diecast wheels.

Hi Chris,

This gets better every time I look at it and its a terrific alternative to model. Will be interested to see thwe Sunters livery and also what you think about the sound 08.

Regards

Philip

Thank's Philip, this is a mock up of the Sunters livery, on a 59, although i'll be using a 66.

The Hornby 08 could do with the chip re-blowing with the Howes sound file.

Cheers, Chris.

Good looking layout Chris, with lots of operating potential.

Glad to see it's taken you 2 years so far. I thought it was just me! I read so many threads on here that seem to make massive progress within a few weeks, I feel totally inadequate!

Keep us posted with your updates.

Thanks Dave, I like to take it steady, most of the enjoyment for me is the creating, with a bit of playing as I go, that's probably why It's going to take so long!

You can't have five DCC sound loco's without hearing them from time to time!

Cheers. Chris.

Your layout is looking really fabulous !!! Thanks for sharing it with us. Can I ask where you bought the forklift from? I had one very similar many years ago and can't remember who made it.

Regards

Scott

Thank's Scott, the forklift is made by Wiking 1:87 scale, bought from Craven Model Centre, Skipton.

Cheers, Chris.
