The Locomotion website states

"The OO gauge APT-E is being produced strictly to order, so you must order yours before 30th April 2015 to be guaranteed delivery. There are unlikely to be any produced for stock."

Well the deposit for my order has just been sent.

How did you order? I cannot find any links to actually ordering one

Does there need to be a set number of preorders or is this going ahead anyway? If it needs a set number of preorders have we hit it yet?

Cheers

Hi mark

There is a minimum but we should reach that without a problem. Every order is allocated a number and there will be certificates to correspond with that when the models are sent out. Not for the trailing cars though. Numbers are allocated as orders come in .

I can say I have been pretty busy today !

Order placed, deposit paid.  :)

Expensive? Not really: two sound fitted loco's and 2 highly detailed and feature-rich coaches for £325?!? Bargain!

And a good feeling that I've stood up and helped.

For me wrong period & wrong country but right thing to do (time to set saving)

Well, knowing Jason et al, it’ll be a superlative model for sure. I knew it was going to be an APT - Mike confused the hell out of me, however......................... :drag:

Easy to say that now, Eh?

Best, Pete.

APT-E? Phew! Thank goodness it is that one - I don't need it/can't justify it in W.Norfolk c 1959. Saves me a bit of money then!

I model 1930's GWR and have no need for one but then........

In the 1970's, i would have my annual visit to relatives in Swindon which in reality was two weeks sat on the station.

In 1975 as a broke 15 year old with a 126 camera obtained by collection tokens from soap powder boxes I settled down to take photos like this

As it was 20 years before the internet and you had to rely on people in the know or three month old information from Railway Magazine & World what I did not expect to see was this

YES I WILL BE ORDERING ONE

And Jason, I hope the second image gives you ideas for the future!

And just for info - the significance of the 3 and the 6.  The power cars were numbered PC 1 and PC 2, the trailers were numbered TC 1 and TC2 - thus two power car (or two trailer) numbers added together make 3, the numbers of all four vehicles added together makes 6.

Sounds to me like "think of some numbers and make them fit" ;) . I would never have worked that out.

I can almost feel the excitement in the bottom picture... what a joy!

One major excitable moment came when it left on full throttle. The English language does not have the words to describe the sound it made. The closest I can compare is being on the end of RAF Brize Norton runway when a VC10 left full loaded. The next day I walked out of town to see it accelerating away, DEAFENING!

Anyone know of a photo with the APT-E and a Western or Hymek? Would give me a little more justification...

Luke

I never managed to photograph together, but 1009 on freight followed the APT/E out eastbound when I took the nose shots.

Alongside a Western would be a given but not an in-service Hymek (last withdrawal Jan '75) as the APT-E was on the GWML in July and August 75 (compulsory blue skies!).

There again D7076 and D7096 were at the RTC at Derby through those times. And a Clayton, and a Metrovick, and a Baby Deltic, and Onslaught....... oh dear.  :senile:

If only APT/E had continued west for a few hundred yards and it would have been seen alongside Warship 818 parked on Swindon's turntable spur and the last of the Hymeks in the scrap yard.

Actually it was a case of come up with some numbers which do fit but which don't readily give the game away, as simple as 1+2 (but only if you knew that was what you needed to do).

couple of questions.

1. Once its trials were complete and BR had finished with it did it go straight to the NRM or was it stored somwhere?

2. How was the set fuelled with it been Gas powered did a specialist tanker come or some other arrangement?

cheers Steve

Quite soon after its final runs it went up to York, when it was away from home territory it was refuelled (often!) by road tankers. I've seen a photo of it at Uffington loop with a hose from an Esso tanker.

I thought the Hymek would be a long shot...

Good that a Western is a go, and will sit well with my Kernow weathered blue Western.

But I already have the RTC Baby Deltic and have wondered about the RTC Clayton.

Thanks

Luke

Don't wonder! Join their email newsletter and see how they do it - masters of expectation management and truly funny too. I like daft, a lot.

Ah, but remember, railway modelling isn't supposed to be fun. I was once actually told to stop referring to railway modelling as fun - by a prominent figure in the hobby, too!

It ran on normal Diesel fuel. Turbines can run on pretty much any fuel, only in aviation are they particular what goes in them.
