Hi Andy,

.  I presume it will be a roundy-roundy...  What sort of era are you contemplating?

Yes it will be roundy roundy. The storage sidings/fiddle yard will be behind the scenic section, with  4ft diameter  connecting lines in a kind of covered trough. The intention here is that the tunnel will be completely black when looked into. Era 1970's/early 80s

I have used a Greenscene  products blend of 'lush green' (about a third) and 'straw'(about 2 thirds). I was originally going to go for the carpet underlay method but was really impressed with the demonstation and advice from Maggie Gravett at the recent Railex show and then decided to go for the static grass method.

Lovely stuff Andy

That takes me right back to happy memories of Cornish holidays... :good:

Yes. It's a clayhood thing. For me anyway, no other railway vehicle sums up 'West Country' or even 'holiday' quite so so much.

Over the last few days I made this platelayers hut.

post-1218-0-80009800-1413295852.jpg

I have only fairly recently moved to N gauge from 4mm scale and must admit that when I drew up the plan for this hut and the signalbox, I was a bit shocked at just how small they were! Still great fun to make though, and not difficult given all the different sizes of microstrip available.

It's based on ones that are seen in books such as John Vaughans' 'Diesels in the Dutchy'

Hi Andy,

Your work here is absolutely fantastic.  Not sure how I've missed this thread before now but loving every bit of it.

The layout has real atmosphere about it and love the weathered tractor :D

Thanks for sharing and look forward to seeing more progress.

Cheers

Lee

I have made a castle to go up on the hill near the tunnel mouth, to replace the tin can which featured in earlier pictures.

It is based upon Blaise Castle at Bristol.

It is built as usual from plasticard and microstrip. This is the shameful state of the side which will not be seen from the front of the layout! Most of my structures are like this. The viaduct is still plain white plasticard on the other side.

Hi Andy,

You have a fantastic looking layout there, the architectural modelling is first class. It really shows the merits of N gauge well, with the railway set in the landscape not the other way round. The sight of a full train of clay hoods emerging from your blacked out tunnel and onto the viaduct will be worth seeing. Will be following with interest.

All the best,

Andrew

Thankyou for the kind comments. I do enjoy making buildings and for me, one of the nice things about 'moving down' to N gauge,  as well as the 'trains in the landscape' thing, is that you can fairly easily accomodate  whole, complete buildings where as so often in 4mm scale, there is no choice but to rely on low relief for the larger structures.
