NYMR platform at Whitby.

Excellent, still a lot to do by April though, on a similar note they reckon the new park and ride will be finished by Easter as well.

It looks a bit like that point will be laid across a board join....

Oh, it's a park and ride is it, I thought they were building a mountain, the soil is now piled higher than the electricity line...

Well the signs claim it is, not sure if they told that to the people with the diggers...

Work on the NYMR platform at Whitby seems to be progressing well, I've had a walk round this afternoon and took a few photos.

Great photos, Paul. Thanks for posting them. There is only just room to get the platform reinstated, isn't there? The Co-Op building doesn't leave much room; was its rear wall location by design to allow for this, I wonder, or was it just luck that it hasn't encroached on the old formation to the extent that reinstatement would have been impossible?

Looking at the photos, its obvious that while sufficient land was retained for a second platform, it was done on the basis that the centre engine release road (the evidence of which cab be seen when looking at the station building and buffer stop area) would never be needed again, thus releasing the maximum land for redvelopment

But they are reinstating a centre release line.  I suspect the only problem, apart from platform curvature, is the width of the platform adjacent to the supermarket wall but presumably it is compliant as it is not mentioned in the document.

Interestingly the NSKT section looks as if it will remain starting from Glaisdale which is in itself a restraint on capacity - and probably a greater one in some respects than the single platform at Whitby although presumably in future a train will be able to lock-in clear of the NSKT section on the new platform line/runround?

The supermarket built the wall on NR land and not their own for a start.

The NYMR playpen will be wholly self contained with the platform being accessed from a ground frame unlocked by the key token, the points for the access going in on Saturday night (with Network Rail coming to Grosmont to ask if they could borrow a clip/scotch for them but that's a different story) enabling the loco to run round with another one in section, the run around loop feeding into the existing Bog Hall siding and thence back onto the platform road.

They've got an intermediate key token machine at Grosmont but you are correct about the restrictions it places on the working, but NR wanted stupid money to split the section at Grosmont as it's not as simple as it sounds as you know.

Is the old loco shed building on the left as you enter from Grosmont  still used by a fish company ?

Coates Marine, chandlers and boat repairers were in there for many years, they're now on the turntable/carriage sidings site - bottom right of the last photo - there was a fish processor in the shed before but I don't remember them, it's been empty for about 20 years.

Indeed, the shed is currently for sale, it was intended to be a restaurant/cafe and art gallery but the plans were cancelled because Network Rail wouldn't allow access from the station platform to the shed, despite there being a set of stairs and a door still in situ.
