Excellent - that seems like a really good mix of layouts - something for everyone. There's a few on the list that I would really like to see. Now if I can blag an invite down to my Dad's house in Wallington that weekend, the Sunday is looking promising for a trip over to Ewell...

  • 3 weeks later...

I had a great day at Scalefour North yesterday and traveled back on the train with friends where we talked about the Epsom show which is now only less than two weeks away.

This is always one of those "its in my diary" exhibitions and I'm certainly looking forward to it.

This years exhibition promises to be a cracker so why not put 26/27 April in your diary as well?

Only 10 days to go, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the show.

We have a great selection of traders and top quality layouts (including several with threads here on RMWeb). Hopeful we have managed to find something for everyone.

Cheers,

Dave

Not one I am able to attend, sadly, but feel I should point out that the college (I knew it as Ewell Tech in my '60s skooldays, and several schoolmates went there after A levels) is right next door to Ewell East station, with plenty of trains from Victoria via Clapham Junction.

Oh !

I'll bring the layout down on the train then - why didn't I think of that earlier...

Most layouts and traders in place tonight ready for tomorrow, just a few to arrive in the morning and we're set for a great show. Already spoken to several layouts and picked up some useful ideas.

I'll be helping on the club's second hand sales stand most of the time, but hope to get a chance to take some photos during the weekend.

Cheers,

Dave

I spent a really good day at the Epsom Exhibition today.

Meet lots of friendly people did a lot of "talking & catching up", spent money on things i didn't know i wanted (!) and saw some very good layouts.

The atmosphere was very relaxed and the catering was good with choices of hot and cold delights and plenty of tables and chairs to use to enjoy it and take the weight off your feet for a while.

This show promised to be a cracker and, as far as I am concerned, it certainly did not disappoint. So if you are thinking about going tomorrow then go as I'm sure you will have a good time.

Thanks to all those involved in delivering a first class exhibition.

Steve (a very pleased visitor)

Thoroughly agree, a nice show with quality layouts and some good trade stands too.

Must admit, I specifically went to see DITD and St Ruth so I just took a few iPhone pics of those...

Well another fun weekend at Epsom. Great organisation and a very friendly club. Thoroughly enjoyed all the layouts too, we were next to St Ruth & Law Jn both of which use the expanse of scenery to fantastic advantage. Lower Exbury was a superb small scene with subtle well observed detail. Penlan and Ynysybwl were already favourites due to the subject and quality. The rope shunting on Broadhurst was fascinating too.

Top quality show again ;)

Made my annual visit to Nescot yesterday and once again it was a very enjoyable show. Particularly liked the rope shunting demo on Broadhurst works along with the friendly "front man" full of interesting information. Also good to see Penlan before it is retired and had a friendly chat with Damian on DitD which brought back a lot of fond Cornish memories for me. Quite frankly all of the layouts had something of interest for me as a rank amateur when it comes to modelling. Came very close to spending lots of money on quality DCC sound thanks to DC kits but resisted (just) but I think that somewhere in the not too distant future there will be a lot more noise in my railway room.

Many thanks to the Epsom club and all involved with organising and exhibiting at this excellent event.

Penlan and Operators had an excellent weekend, together with our good friends on Ynysybwl, though a pub they found late on Saturday night (Barley Mow, off Upper High St.) had the most expensive Cider from the pump/tap I've ever had £4.40....., The London Pride was £3.40.

I had been in Guildford earlier that evening visiting my Grand-Daughter and had Cornish Cider (?) in the Kings Head at £3.60 (a well trained G-D ! !)  - but it appeared to be part of the same chain as the Barley Mow, judging from the appearance of the meal menu's - the meals were expensive and not very good..

I seem to recall DitD has a sound system, so a little unfortunate they were located directly across the isle from the only retailer of sound systems....  :nono:

Many thanks to all the Epsom & Ewell Club people for making our weekend enjoyable.

We had about 3 sessions where things seemed to go wrong, all brief, unexplained, cured themselves incidents, but frustrating.

Many thanks for all the comments, and a big thank you to those who brought their layouts and those who visited the show and spent money with our traders.  It was a very successful weekend and everyone seemed to have a good time.

I finally managed to get around to look at the layouts quite late on Sunday afternoon. Every layout seemed to have something special and I took some photos of the bits that attracted my attention:

An excellent weekend for Clutton, bit of operator error, remarkably few derailments, virtually no stalls.

Good curry on Saturday night.

A very well stewarded show.

Thanks are due to the organising team for putting on a good show, providing a good range of diverse layouts, almost something for everyone.

I think Jo on Exbury was getting paranoid about the level of interest in her cassette turntable over the layout ;)

Rare to get a show where every single layout has something of interest but this one did for me.

From the Ynysybwl group, I would like to echo Sandy's remarks about the show - we had a really good time, friendly people, excellent quality show, shame about the expensive beer. We can still get a pint of real ale for less than £2 in Cardiff. Nobody has yet mentioned Purgatory Peak - really interesting layout with lots of good ideas. I was able to have a look at the fiddle yard which, as on many layouts, hides some good modelling. Aylesbury next for Ynysybwl but sadly I can't go due to my niece deciding to get married that weekend. You would have thought she could consult the exhibition calendar before deciding on a date.
