RMweb Gold 4630 Posted June 10, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 10, 2014 A few more. First up, Piccadilly line 1973 stock at Acton Town while I was waiting to gain entry to the LT Museum at Acton for their open day on 7th March 2009. Now the Metropolitan line - Baker Street on 23rd May 2008 with A stock 5221 waiting to form a service to Watford. With the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines running parallel to each other above ground from Finchley Road to Wembley Park, there's often a 'race' between trains on adjacent lines. Jubilee line 96007 photographed from an adjacent Metropolitan line train. On to Northwick Park. A stock 5234, with the weak field flag set, hurries by on the fast line with a service to Amersham. eastwestdivide
Can I add some from the 1980s - 'A' stock at Moorgate, alongside a nearly-new "Bed-Pan" unit, well before Thameslink opened: Baker Street with 'C' stock, 1985, not long after they refurbished the "downlighters" which originally provided light from street level I think: Greenford, 1985 with 1962 stock: And two from I think Neasden, 1985 - 'A' stock on the Met and 1972 stock on the Jubilee: Two varieties of tube stock on the Jubilee, 1972 stock right and 1983 stock (I think?) on the left:
stewartingram
Some more from me, this time on the District line. I originally posted these in another thread, now deleted and moved here! Olympic branded D-stock, 2012. District and Central lines meet at Ealing Broadway. Westbound at West Kensington. I always feel this is a country station in the big city. I've seen pigeons alight here, having travelled from Earls Court, standing by the doors just like commuters! Eastbound at Dagenham Heathway. D-stock leaving Barons Court for Hammersmith. Wimbledon bound train, slowing for the stop at South Wimbledon. A kensington Olympia train in the bay at High Street Kensington. Eastbound train at West Kensington. A shot from the staff footbridge leading to the offices and Lillie Bridge depot. Detail at Upton Park. LTSR canopy bracket. South Kensington station facade. Earls Court during Engineering Hours, shortly before the start of traffic. The approach to South Kensington (on the left), from the portacabins on the south side of the track. From here the Track Access Control (TAC) operates, guarding the safety of staff on the track. D-stock at the buffers, Ealing Broadway. Note the old style District roundel (diamond?) on the wall. The track testing train passes under the magificently restored canopy at Earls Court. Stewart

Torn-on-the-platform
Sandown. Train in down platform taken from up, formerly island, platform. Shanklin hasn't had two platform lines for many years. Ah yes, thanks. This was, I think 2005 or 2006. We had been staying in Shanklin but travelled the length of the 'tube' line, so I guess I got out at Sandown to take photos. I don't think we explored the town.
RMweb Gold 4630 Posted June 19, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 19, 2014 C stock has now finished in normal passenger service so here are some scanned photographs taken at Farringdon circa 1988 when the stock was still in its original state before the later refurbishments. RMweb Gold 4630 Posted June 19, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 19, 2014 As an earlier post featured the former 1938 underground stock now operating on the Isle of Wight, I thought I'd add a few photos of the previous electric stock that operated on the island. I hope this slight 'thread drift' is acceptable. These were taken one day during the summer of 1989 (probably one of the Network South East reduced fare days) when the pre-1938 tube stock, usually referred to in London Underground references as 'standard stock', was in its last few months of operation. 485041 clatters into Ryde St Johns Road with a working from Shanklin to Ryde Pier. At Ryde Pier 485044 waits its next duty. Car number 8 was built in 1931 by the Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co. making it around 58 years old by the time that the photo was taken. A youngster compared to some of the trailer cars which dated from 1923! The shuttle from Ryde Pier to Ryde Esplanade was being worked by 485045. If anyone is interested in learning more about underground trains on the Isle of Wight I recommend getting hold of a copy of 'Tube Trains on the Isle of Wight' by Brian Hardy and published by Capital Transport. outcastjack
Great photos all, keep it up. does anyone have a decent side on shot of any A stock bogies? Also I think I have some not terribly good photos of Rayners Lane somewhere which I am more than happy to post up if anyone is interested.

eastwestdivide
Wombling free... never to see Wimbledon again. Half-way there in about 1982: The last few hundred yards, early 80s: And more recently, these trains terminate here: (Leicester, Rotherham Holmes - taken from an excursion down the "old road", Booths yard from the hillside, and Booths through the open gate, with a 1st-generation Manchester tram also for the chop)

LU_fan
Yes! Finally i can make my own addition to this thread. I spent four days riding around in the Underground during the first week of August. I got quite a few shots, but i will only post my very best ones, in my opinion anyway. Moorgate with Sarah Siddons. Sloane Square with the wonderful D78 stock. S-stock on the District at Earl's Court. Kensington (Olympia). On the other side we had an Overground train aswell. Could this by any chance be the first D78 unit delivered? Moving on to Barons Court with the lovely 1973-stock. Still at Barons Court, and these two are ready to race. Hammersmith and more S-stock. White City. Day 2, and we are at Baker Street. Next up, Queen's Park. I do love the old trains. Day 3 started with the Waterloo & City line. The best shot i could get at that line. Moving out to the suburbs i found myself at Leytonstone. Next stop, South Kensington. Notting Hill Gate was next. The fourth and final day started out great. I went to Highgate to try to get a good photo of the High Level platforms with no success. Until i ran into the station supervisor in the ticket hall, and... Ta-da! "You don't ask, you don't get" as he put it. Next up, East Finchley. Mill Hill East, the most pointless station still in use i think. It's hard to believe these trains are nearly 19 years old. Finchley Central. I couldn't resist. I rode on all 11 lines, but i failed to get a photo of the 2009-stock, but that doesn't bother me. The same goes for the 1996-stock, but atleast i got the nearly identical 1995-stock. I prefer the older trains. I'm just upset that i missed the C-stock by a matter of days. And the A-stock with a matter of years.
Lord of Narnia
Nice photos. Actually the double cab D78 stock units entered service first and units 7532-7528 had the honour.
LU_fan
Thanks! Huh. Well, then why number them the way they did? Is that part of the LU numbering system?
Lord of Narnia
Basically yes. The A stock started the process with 5XXX for motors (evens A ends and odds for D ends) and 6XXX for trailers with the same rules. The C69 stock used a similar rule with 55XX for motors and 65XX for trailers. The C stock was reversible even after OPO conversion so there was no odd/even distinction. The D stock was handed and in 3 car units so something different was needed. As the 5 and 6 series was well used LT used 7XXX and 8XXX. Motors were 7XXX trailers 17XXX and UNDM 8XXX. As the D stock is handed odd and even numbers denoted the ends. Double cab units were identified easily with 75XX as cab ends did not carry A or D markers like earlier stocks. I spent four days riding around in the Underground during the first week of August. ..... Mill Hill East, the most pointless station still in use i think. .... Mill East may be pointless to you, but it's very well-used these days. The Northern Line as a whole has become a lot more boring to travel on since fixed block / lineside signalling was abolished throughout, in favour of cab-based TBTC. Travelling on it every day, as I do, journey times aren't noticeably quicker either.

It's funny, i told some friends that same evening that "even here in London i get to see things that nobody else gets to see." As if they weren't jealous enough of what i get to do at home.
