Bit more 90 work today 90005 has been weathered. Managed to find a pic of it in it's intercity livery with OHLE flashes above the doors but not on the cab fronts so they have been addedIMG_18133.jpg.93210316f5b5658dd2a65f8f15b3fb7e.jpg

and a general view of the roof;

Meanwhile 90030 has had the black grills tidied after the weekends cock up with the gold band and the numbers are on now - looking good!

On the side above the  numbers sit directly under the plate. On this side, for some reason the number is offset, I guess they numbered it before putting the plates on. I checked it out with a number of photos and however tempted I am to centralise them this is accurate:sadclear:IMG_18111.jpg.a6e921735d82c127a590062ad257111c.jpg

My model of 90128 has now become 90028 so it can now pull anything rather than just be restricted to freight only. All prototypically weathered along with being modernised a little with OHLE warning panels. The TMD sockets were wrongly painted orange before and are now yellow as per the real thing.

Nice job with the painting, of course, but aren't the handrails separate wires?

Wouldn't have thought it was necessary to paint them. Just a thought.

Al.

Both Bachmann and Hornbys class 90 handrails are moulded on.

Due to how the handrails mount on a 90, moulded probably leads to a better result. They're not the traditional 'staple' shape most locos have, but are vertical with a mounting plate at each end. It's possible Bachmann could have added holes at the top and bottom of the recess but the surrounding material would be crazy thin and not sure you could even drill it at that angle.

Separate detail isn't the be all and end all, sometimes a well moulded handrail or grill can trump wire or an etch, it's about using the most appropriate technique in each application.

Very much agree with that.  I've often thought that separate detail - particularly handrails, which are sometimes overscale - can spoil the look of a model.

Yep, some handrails would scale up as scaffold poles! Steadfast is spot on with the manufacturing challenge and the 90 handrails do look fine, the downside with moulded handrails is that they are such a pain to mask around for liveries with stripes - soooo much easier when you can swap them out!

Well, thats given those in the creative repainting department lots of work to do, like Ben @cambo74  and Jerry @Squirrel Rail ... lol - and a good job of it they are doing :-)

Yes and they are fantastic and love the work they're doing but I find it tragic the only new stuff we see with the Bachmann 90's are repaints and nothing from Bachmann themselves.
