New from Oxford is the Commer Walkthru van in the later Rail Express Parcels livery. Suitable for c1975-82 timescale.  The casting is new with roller shutter doors as fitted to the parcel vans, and a nice job they have made of it.

Seen here with one I made earlier from a 40 year old Efsi model (right)

Just seen this sorry.  Was that the hand painted one that went for silly money?  Not sure if it actually sold mine is off the road as it needs a fuel tank.

There are four I believe now and they have all copied my error with the lettering on the rear doors!

Not totally wrong as I have seen at least one like mine with the lettering all on one door rather than accross  both of them which was more common

Russ, this is the correct official positioning on the rear doors. No double arrow on the back, unlike some of the model manufacturers. Lettering about half the size of the side, and always on the right door. Anything else seen on the back is possibly retro fitted after repairs etc.

I wonder if it was a later change of spec. My copy of the painting instructions are a later date to the HA van, May 1986.

Will have to go through my photos and see if it can be dated.

Found another pic on flickr last night of a Transit recovery van with a red arrow, slightly bigger than a side one on the rear, but it has other extra lettering, making me think depot customising.

Nothing new in that, we had a Sherpa with Welsh flags (can't find the photo but here is the replacement) and recently a loco depot sticker was seen on a Network Rail van.

Is this "Rule 1" ?

There is about three modern Van's in etches park painted in the BR tool van livery in yellow with a black Chevron line round them not sure if they are marked rerailing equipment.  Look quite nice for modern vehicles though

So will they be East Midland Railway vans ?  Somebody seems to have a sense of nostalgia.

Found 2 of them on flickr, just searched Etches Park. Very good, proper job. The Maestro would look right among them.

Interesting that document specifies a BR primer and mentioned yellow paint but doesn't say what yellow

All BL stuff I believe was there own colour highway yellow but we had some mk5 escort Van's that was a ford colour and very lemon yellow not sure what Vauxhall or Chrysler used.

Not all vehicles were yellow my mate was fitter at colchester and they had a while maestro van.

At thornaby we had a blue metro and a few blue 309 cars that were also blue with red double arrows on the bottom of the drivers door. There was also a red chevan belonging to the DOME which was red and lettered as per small vans

Russ, it specifies warning yellow, but as you say, the maestros and freight rovers etc were highway yellow, the warning yellow is a bit more creamy. I think some of the coachbuilders used whatever bright yellow they had, ford summer yellow is almost identical to highway yellow, the escort combis and vans were the ford standard colour yellow, pale and didnt weather very well!

That's the colour,  ours was a van rather than a combi, I remember one boring weekend when I was on call giving it a cut and polish as we were EWS by then and it was our last BR lettered small van the others being unmarked white astras with gunmetal star of David 14in steel wheels which actually looked quite smart.  The pway had some to the same spec and number series but looked even better in a bright yellow and BR markings.  These were resprayed  maroon and lettered up for Jarvis

As far as the cars were concerned there was a standard livery in the 1950s and 60s, it was Henry Ford black. Later this changed to buying cars from the manufacturers and dealers in all sorts of colours, probably taking the unpopular colours off their hands. Very few cars were branded, and I think we had a number in the North West area S&T mainly Escorts, with arrows on the door/s.

Ford's light yellow seems to originate with the Mk.2 Escorts (below) Morris and Vauxhall look a bit different but could be down to aging paint. And we had cars in all sorts of colours
