RMweb Premium Reorte Posted July 8, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 8, 2015 Now that I live a little closer (at least on the right side of getting out of Stockport) perhaps I can make it in time to see everything at a comfortable pace this year. Previously I've had a leisurely wander around the site until realising time is getting short to actually look at some model railways, at which point I've done a panicked rush. I've found this an ejoyable show, models rubbing shoulders with the 1:1 gear and a site to wander around and find things in somehow makes it all a bit more interesting than one large hall. EE 8SVT
Vintage Corner (Building F Static Power) The ever popular "Vintage Corner" is housed this year in the exhibition area of the Static Power building, a selection of these wonderful machines will also be in operation/display for our visitors. PAUL DRAYCOTT will exhibit : UNUSUAL AND OBSCURE OO GAUGE : This is another first time showing as Paul exhibits his fine collection of items manufactured during the period from the 1930s to the 1970s. Products are propriety, kit built, scratch built and manufactured by the lesser known and short lived model railway companies. ADRIAN LAMBOURNE will exhibit : MEMORY LANE : A collection of Hornby "O" gauge representing a pre war train set that any child of that era would have been proud (and privileged) to have owned. More updates on UK Steam and Diesel layouts will be posted soon. And as mentioned above one of the wonderful items from the Static Power collection: a Mercury arc rectifier Steve Railex Team

andyram
So once again train services dominated by diesel traction. Disappointing it has to be said, it has been like that for a couple of years. That said the model show is always excellent.

andyram
Well if that's what is available for the weekend then that's what it has to be, like it or not. How many model rail shows can you go to with the real thing working alongside the exhibits. Rob I totally understand that may be all they have available. But after each previous exhibition the railway has stated that they would be looking to provide more steam for the following year's event and each year they have failed to deliver. So while it is understandable it is still disappointing...as to your other comment....there are several other shows based on preserved steam railways. That said the loco roster won't put me off going to what is always a great event.
RMweb Premium Dava Posted July 28, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 28, 2015 Will be sorry to miss this event which was so good last year. Suspect the underlying motive power problem is that Butterley has very few 'in ticket' SG steam locos, though the flyer implies Duchess activity! Usually find the narrow gauge line makes up for this. Dava I agree Dava. There is reported to be two in steam on the narrow gauge, I had forgotten about that, so that does improve the picture a little. As you say the flyer for the event does show a picture of the Duchess. Whilst I would have been very surprised to see it running at the event, it is the first time that I recall it actually used in the advertising material. Sam Moss
The flyer is quite misleading as all three loco's pictured either won't be there, or are not running / out of ticket!
RMweb Gold Gilbert Posted July 28, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2015 The flyer is quite misleading as all three loco's pictured either won't be there, or are not running / out of ticket! I'm ambivalent about this - I realy enjoy this show and normally make a real effort to come up from Bristol as it is one of my rare free weekends - including a hotel stay for at least one nght but it may only be last year that they advertised that the event would be featuring shunters - a "super shunter spectacular" actually - and frankly it didn't - most were tucked up in the shed. On balance though it's worth doing - maybe they should be careful what they promise.. This year I won't be travelling as I am helping exhibit at the Ross on Wye show that weekend - if not I may well have gone north anyway..sucker.. EE 8SVT
Railex update RE:- Shuttle Train Services Train one top-n-tail Steam: With a visiting guest engine courtesy of the Foxfield Railway 0-6-0 Well Tank Locomotive "Bellerophon" Built in 1874: Bellerophon was one of six almost identical locomotives built for the Haydock Collieries between 1868 and 1887, Bellerophon herself being completed in 1874. Unusually for the time the locomotives had outside motion and a further revolutionary aspect was the use of piston valves, nearly two decades before this type of valve gear is generally recognised as being in use. Bellerophon, being the only survivor of the class, is therefore unique, not only for having Stephenson/Gooch valve gear but because she is the last of the only six engines ever built at the Haydock Foundry. On the other end of this set is the recently returned to traffic BR 5MT 73129 Also running on demonstration trains and possibly on the odd shuttle train* (*TBC) Pecket 0-4-0ST Whitehead So three Standard Gauge Steam Locomotives in action. Train two will be top and tail Diesels (Class 47,45 or 31) On the Narrow Golden Valley Railway two Steam Locomotives will be in operation: Visiting 0-6-0 Joffre and our resident Locomotive Joan. So should give plenty of variety for Steam and Diesel fans alike. All Locomotives advertised are subject to availability on the day of course, but all are currently serviceable and in ticket. andyram
Now that loco line up does look a lot better. I remember a few years ago Whitehead was used on drive for a fiver duty at one of the early model railway events. A nice little loco.
