  1. W3085 was fitted with prototype B4 bogies in 1962 (which are very different to production B4 bogies) It was built new in 1959 by BRCW with BR1 bogies.
  2. We did take a photo of some of the former staff, as close to the original Heathcote Street shop entrance as possible, the L/H double door, is roughly where the entrance was.( the display window being to the R/H side of this) From left to right in the photo: Adam/ Pete/Rob/Steve/Paul and Jez, all either full or part time staff. We are looking at planning another get together later in the year ( not City Centre) so if you ever worked at Gee Dee Models and want details, please PM me. ( I don't have contact details for all former staff) all the best Steve
  3. As promised, a few photos to show how the former shop site has been redeveloped, have to say not impressed TBH.As someone born in Nottingham, the so called "redevelopment of the City" is very poor, particularly the Hockley area and the City centre. ( well IMO) The number of empty shops is quite depressing, the area is now full of Bars and Restaurant's, so assume other than weekends and evenings, the whole are is a ghost town. The new building houses Student flats.
  4. 5 Years ago today on Saturday 30th April 2019 at 16.00 hours, Gee Dee Models Heathcoate Street in Nottingham City Centre , pulled down the shutters for the last time, bringing to an end nearly 45 years on this particular site, Several of the former staff are going to meet up today, to commiserate this sad anniversary. I will try to post an update, over the next few days.

  6. Red Star Parcels were still being carried on trains around the 1984-1985 period ( possibly later?) I recall than when the new production Class 150/1 DMU were introduced on the Nottingham- Crewe route, that a passenger area behind the Drivers cab of the DMS vehicle was locked out when needed for Red Star Parcels, this was denoted by a light blue band above the large windows at cantrail level. The two car Class 150/1 had replaced 3 Car Class 120 units that had a specific Guards brake compartment/ parcels area, on the Class 150/1 the Guard road in the rear cab. I seem to recall one occasion on a very crowded service, where this compartment was locked out of use, to allow one very small parcel to be securely conveyed ( this was about the size of a cereal packet) it was suggested to the Guard that he could put it in the rear cab and allow 20 + passengers to sit down. The Guard refused to do this for some reason. By the next station stop a couple of railway staff (traveling on the cushions) got on, unlocked the door put the "precious parcel" on the floor and told all the standing passengers to sit down, the Guard latter returned and was not happy! I seem to recall that this "parcel facility" on Class 150/1 only lasted for a couple of years (max) and the blue bands were removed at the first overhauls/ re-liveries. Red Star Parcels were also conveyed on the West Highland line services, certainly before the Sprinters arrived. Hope this info is of use.
