SIMBA1OFF
I would like to convert a pannier tank to EM gauge. I have got a comet chassis but is there any way I could re use the Bachmann chassis. Never done anything like this before so any advice would be good.
Gordon A
Have you looked at the Ultrascale drop in wheel conversion sets. I know they do a drop in set for P4. Alternatively have a look at the Alan Gibson wheel range. Gordon A Bristol
Clem
Hi, As a first stop, I would go to http://www.alangibsonworkshop.com/and then go into downloads. There are a whole list of EM conversion sheets many done by Pete Hill. Included is the Bachmann 57xx. Clem
RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted August 17, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 17, 2015 Are you a member of the EMGS? The EMGS manual have a number of loco conversion sheets, including the B'mann pannier, available for members.
ThePipersSon
I've tried both the Ultrascale and Alan Gibson conversion kits. The Ultrascale kit is the easier to do, but the problem is getting hold of one (six month waiting). It comes ready set-up to just drop the new wheels in. No setting back-to-back or quartering. The issues are getting the pick-ups working and possibly tightness in the meshing of the new gears to the Bachmann ones. The crankpins are already the right size for the Bachmann model and there is built in spacing to take up the sideplay. The Alan Gibson kit requires a lot more work. Firstly you need to source some spacers to take up the sideplay. The wheels I received needed drilling for the crankpins. Then they need to be assembled, taking the gear wheel from the original Bachmann axle. Thus you will need to set the back-to-backs, and the quartering. There are washers to use to mate the Alan Gibson crankpins to the Bachmann connecting rod. Hope this helps Tom
