Farnham Club Exhibition in Aldershot - 10th and 11th October

The Farnham & District Model Railway Club show takes place at its usual venue, Connaught Leisure Centre, Tongham Road, Aldershot, GU12 4AS, on 10th and 11th October. The layouts expected to appear are:

More details will be found here: http://farnhammrc.org.uk/?page_id=102

We probably have a wider range of traders than in previous years: http://farnhammrc.org.uk/?page_id=170

Opening times are 10am till 5pm (Saturday) and 10am to 4.30pm (Sunday).

Unfortunately the Gas Board and SE Water both have works in the area, so there are 2 sets of temporary traffic lights on the normal route from the A323, and while the route is open you have to go past signs saying "Road Closed Ahead - Local Access only". We intend to have a lot of signs to guide and reassure you.

The number 15 bus which runs every 15 minutes on Saturdays from the station now runs every 30 minutes on Sunday as well. Because of the water works the route has been curtailed and the nearest stop to the Connaught Leisure Centre is about a 600 yard walk.

Any buses from the railway station? No mention here or on the club's website.

Thanks to everyone who came along today, but please don't forget we are open tomorrow, Sunday, if you can make it - you will be most welcome.

We had a lot of visitors remarking on the general high quality of the layouts today. I should make particular mention of St. Merryn, Greenfield Sidings and Earl's Court who featured highly in our 'Most Appealing Layout' competition as nominated by visitors and End of the Line which won the cup.

Wonderful show - spent a couple of happy hours wandering around, spent too much money and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Some great layouts too - standouts for us including Oldshaw, The End Of The Line & Ballyconnell Road amongst others. The one we kept coming back to, though, was Earl's Court. Blown away to see such a simple track plan being so fascinating to watch - and so superbly modelled (beautiful work, Terry!).

For anyone who didn't make it today: f you're in the area it's well worth a visit tomorrow. One of the more inspiring shows we've visited in the last year or so. Well done, all!

Firstly thanks for posting all the excellent photos to show what what we have, and positive responses from others. Unfortunately Fryupdale was a late withdrawal.

Excellent show (but then it usually is) however the quality of the layouts overall seemed to be up a notch or two this year notwithstanding the fact that this show always has some very good layouts.  Probably wasted far too much of Terry's time talking to him behind Earls Court but great to talk to someone who remembers some of London's railways in the same way as I do and then goes and reproduce the essence of them in such an excellent manner for us all to see (very kind of JohnB to introduce us).

Inevitably I thought 'End Of The Line' would be ranked 'most appealing' but plenty of others were just as good in their own, differing, ways.

Nice bacon rolls too and the tea wasn't bad.  Thanks to the website we were prepared to encounter traffic problems due to the roadworks but in fact it worked out very well so ought not to put anybody off for tomorrow.  Oh, and top marks for the excellent road signing - nice and clear and all signs well placed for us coming off the A331 (although I know the way anyway by now).

It was a excellent show. Some interesting layouts and all well presented

As The Stationmaster says the road signing was well placed and weaving round the roadworks was fine, don't be put off visiting by that, you will miss a first class show!

Catering worked well and smoothly..

Well done all

John

Thank you for all the lovely comments. It really was a very enjoyable show. Lots of very appreciative and friendly punters. Nice to meet some new people and see some faces behind the names.

Thanks to all the club members and stewards...excellent job chaps.

I highly recommend this exhibition to any potential exhibitors or visitors.

The End of the Line gang had a very enjoyable weekend at the Farnham Club Show.

There was was some outstanding modelling on display.  Personal highlights for me were....

post-7686-0-49917200-1444591249_thumb.jpg

St Merryn - runs beautifully and an all time favorite layout of mine.

Coldfair Green - This has to have one of the best layout backscenes EVER - it just blends with the rest of the layout and the detail is fantastic.  You have to get down to eye level to really appreciate it to the full.

post-7686-0-61608100-1444591266_thumb.jpg

Ballyconnell Road - Irish 3mm - virtually all scratch built including working inside valve gear and I thought the circular format worked well.

There were a number of other superb layouts as others have mentioned above.  The Farnham Club were great hosts and it was a pleasure to be part of the show.

Finally, the gang were honoured to receive the Keith Purbrook trophy for the most appealing layout as voted by the visitors on Saturday.

Once again, many thanks to the Farnham Club for a great show.
