RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 16, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2016 Not bad for an hour or two ! We then climbed the steps of the cathedral A quick family shot
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 16, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2016 On our travels we wandered to the East side of the bridge where I grabbed another few photos
RMweb Premium 31A Posted January 16, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 16, 2016 A fascinating series of pictures, Beast - thanks for posting! The loco hauled S-Bahns must be on borrowed time. Some of the hauled IC coaches are pretty old too - I think the ones with the 'more domed' roof ends, like the Bord Bistro car in one of the earlier pictures - to be replaced by IC2? I like the Thalys power car repaired with a part from a TGV! The Cathedral tower gives a different viewpoint - it isn't easy trying to take pictures through the bridge girders! ForestPines
The loco hauled S-Bahns must be on borrowed time. Those locos are probably one of the most widespread legacies of East Germany that survive in Germany today! A large number were built in the second half of the 1980s, and many moved west as soon as the railway network was reunified.
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 20, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 20, 2016 getting towards the end - then I can show my small collection of the electric coal railway Having ridden on the cable cars we wandered back to the centre of Koln and I - obviously grabbed another few shots. RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 20, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 20, 2016 After a few hours doing some wandering, eating fantastic food and the like we returned for the train home - and once again an opportunity arose, so I went to the other end of the station

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 21, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 21, 2016 That concludes my photos from Koln - next time I'll go and find the freight but for my first visit I was happy with some passenger workings, and I only spent a couple of hours there - it was very busy. Allegheny1600
DAS_0743.JPG Ooh! Nice catch! A Velaro class 407, same as the new Eurostar! Glad you enjoyed Köln, if you'd like at least this much passenger action with the same again in freight, I can recommend Hamburg Harburg - it's awesome! Cheers, John. Köln Süd is a good place for freight, I believe!
