Simond
Holy post resurrection, Batman! the “old” design of outside crank axles from Slaters used a taper fit between the wheel and axle, which meant tha5 the wheels needed to be firmly fixed to the axles by pressing hard near the centre. They don’t really want to be taken off once fitted, which can be a challenge for the build, and I recall Douglas having problems with the axles turning, but the wheels not. please google “Slaters outside crank axles 7mm” for more info atb Simon

Father Dougal
A spot of running this morning. 03162 shunting a few clay wagons. 25027 waiting by the shed. Father Dougal
A few more running shots. The slurry loading point is now done. Inspired by the one at Par. Needs more weathering. A DPU in Royal Mail red pulls in for fuel. 08050 shunts a couple of scrap wagons. Dougal.
Father Dougal
An earlier running period today. A class 15 pulls away from the clay dries. Whilst D2860 wrestles with a huge TCA at the slurry loading. Dougal.
Father Dougal
So, just before Christmas I bought a Portacabin for my layout. Today I built and painted it as well as adding a few signs. Glazing and lighting to follow and tidying up the hard standing around the front. Dougal 10
Father Dougal
I have tried out a system of job cards for different movements on the layout. Going well so far with 3 cards taking around an hour to complete. Here are a few shots; Denise shunting a mixed rake of 21 & 24.5 T coal wagons to the dries, 25027 removing the same coal wagons later and Denise shunting a TCA to the slurry loading point. Father Dougal
Finally got to the 11th. Today is a long awaited day as I can now order a few kits. A 37/4 and a class 14 (Teddy bear) and now on order. Fingers crossed they will arrive towards the end of the week. I think I might do the 14 first. a very excited Dougal 1

Is the 14 the DJH or PRMRP version? I wouldn't mind doing a pair of either version. My research suggests the PRMRP version needs some work on the cab width over the chassis width. Father Dougal
Hello, it is a PRMRP kit. Once received I will let you know how she measures up. Dougal
Father Dougal
A few photos around the layout. Denise shunts a quarry working for pick up later. GPTRAMM ready for departure. A collection of scrap wagons.
Father Dougal
Ok so, kits arrived. I have made a tentative start on the class 14. The cab is soldered to the running plate. The roof will be removable. The engine cover thingies will be soldered once I have drilled a few holes in the cab walls to take the wiring for lights. woodyfox
Great start. Seems to go together very well. I assume you'll have to add weight into the bonnets? Will this be in original green or one of the industrial schemes? I would see the 060 chassis as a challenge.

I expect I will need to add some liquid gravity to add weight, but I need to see how much space is left once I have fitted the sound chip, lights, speaker and stay alive. The Bonnet ends are cast metal so that should help. Dougal
Father Dougal
More progress to the body shell. Loads of detail added. Fitting the individual steps was a pain. My soldering will never win an award for neatness but everything is fitted soundly. I have modified the end pieces to be plain with no head code boxes as my prototype doesn’t have them (not shown in these photos). Buffer beams next. Father Dougal
Feeling pretty pleased with myself today. The chassis is now built and running smoothly. I had a lot of hassle with clearing the white metal horn blocks etc and ended up grinding a considerable amount off. As they can’t be seen when the wheels are on I now wonder why I bothered fitting them! The body is being painted and a few bits need to be attached. I have run out of BR Blue and Chevron decals so a spot of shopping is in order now. 9
Father Dougal
Getting there. The body shell is painted, weathered and decals added. The chassis has wiper pick ups. I swapped out the motor to a more beefy version as the tiny motor I first used didn’t have enough oomph. I now have a Canon motor with a 30:1 gear box. Testing on the layout it appears that a long wheelbase loco with a central axle drive really doesn’t like the peco curves at all. The solution is clearly weight (and a shed load- around 400g front and rear axle) Then she runs really well. I tested this using my lead weights- sadly these are the wrong shape to fit inside the body shell. so, almost a Kg of liquid gravity ordered. more to follow, Dougal
F-UnitMad
You're certainly cracking on with it. One 'request' for the forthcoming Minerva 14 was for it to negotiate Peco setrack. Apparently they've managed it, no mean feat for what is effectively an 0-8-0 chassis. Not an issue for me, I won't be using setrack. 1
Father Dougal
Oh yes! Weights added and she can run around set track curves without incident. Very pleased with the result. finished as 9529 in BR Blue. Lights and decoder to follow. I just need to paint and fit the driver and control console. westerner
I was under the impression that class 14s never received BR blue and were always green.
