Some had the conical ones on Dougal's model so it may still be an 03 but I can't speak for that particular number Paul R The body is an 04 …. Clues are the shape of the cab roof and the cab side windows see this super picture from Pete Wilcox on Flickr for comparison. However the beauty of a name like Father Dougal is you can get away with anything on your railway! Edited November 23, 2021 by Phil Bullock
deltic17
Yes definitely an 04 and not an 03 as explained above!

RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted November 23, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 23, 2021 On the other hand it's blue so not an 04
auld_boot
Beg to differ guys, in my eyes it has 03 front cab windows. 04 front windows weren't curved at the bottom to the contour of the bonnet like on an 03. I think there's something amiss around the rainstrips on the cab roof that is making it look like an 04 cab. Finally I don't think 04s had the bulge in the bonnet in front of the cab that is present on 03s.

Only early Drewry locos had the small square cab front windows…. Later ones had larger cab front windows which followed the bonnet profile like an 03. Afraid it’s an 04
auld_boot
Ah ha I see the loco you're talking about now! I thought the chat was about the 'right price' kit being built a couple of pages back, which is clearly an 03. Sorry for confusing and hijacking your thread father D.

Always interesting to learn something new here. This does remind me to get the 03 motorised and running, but pacer first- unless I get distracted again
Father Dougal
Ok so, fuelled by a lovely cooked breakfast today, I have done more work on Bodyshell 2. The decoder and speaker should come this week. I should then be able to decide how I want the floor to look. I made a few shrubs and some trees in Autumn leaves. I will need loads more trees.

Father Dougal
Had a long weekend so more work on the second car/ carriage/ power unit. I will fit a harness for the motor. I have begun adding weights to some of the boxes. I now have the decoder and speaker so I build a wider fuel tank for the speaker to fit in. I also added some fencing to the layout.
Father Dougal
Both chassis done and painted. Body shells primed. I will paint and fit lights over next few weeks. Power chassis runs ok but needs more weight- waiting for a delivery that is now 1 week late. ModelU passengers painted and fitted. I will post photos soon. Father Dougal
The painting continues on the Skipper/ Pacer unit. Looks ok so far but loads more to do yet. The power car body shell still doesn’t fit properly and lists very slightly. Not sure what is causing the issue. She runs but traction is an issue. I may have to experiment with some ‘Bullfrog snot’ The station sidings have been simplified and I have extended the platform. This looks much better to me. I have started on the retaining wall and embankment behind the signal box. I have also added some water texture to my little brook. I found the Gloss Modge Podge was not glossy enough, this is a MIG product that does the same thing. Father Dougal
So with the Skipper chipped and running, I started a scratch build of a Clay Tiger. My first full scratch build. Loads to do, but so far so good..... 4

Father Dougal
A bit more tinkering. The walkway was fun to do and looks good. The pipe work looks ok but is in the style of rather than an exact copy. A bit of tidy up to do and I need 1 more length of brass wire. 4
Father Dougal
Just waiting on Square buffers and vac pipes. I broke out my airbrush to add a coat of grime. I have gone for a fairly light coat. I need to source some valves to finish off the underframe detail. I am quite pleased with how she came out- not an exact replica but close enough for me. One more to build.
pwr
That's very good Dougal. Now all you need is a few more for a trainload!!!!. I have to say I admire your bravery in tackling this from scratch. Did you have a drawing? I recall seeing one in Railway Modeller many moons ago Paul R
Rivercider
That clay tiger is a beast, very impressive. Fortunately as they sometimes ran singly, or in pairs, you do not need a whole load of them. cheers
Father Dougal
Thank you for the kind replies. I built this from photos and a few crude measurements. As Mostly run speed link services I only need a couple.

Paul R I've been doing the same, though it does have a couple of issues for me, mushrooms for one, never any need for fungus, it is redeemed a little with the black pudding. But for me it is missing some variation of egg (I see Dougal doesn't like egg!) and Lorne Sausage.
