woodenhead
I made the trip to Barnetby yesterday (along with everyone photographer in the country it seemed!) to capture the semaphores for the last time. The weather played it's part and allowed for some fantastic shots. Once the Christmas period has finished, I will upload the full set of photos. https://flic.kr/p/CkAhyT Perfect shot for the sunset of semaphore signalling at Barnetby. LNER4479
Some of mine, from a trip there in 1988. (I ended up getting stranded and spending the night on Cleethorpes station - but that's a different story!)

Timara
I went for a final fling there last month, after a good few years absence. My favourite pic of the day is this one, which I'll never be able to repeat. 20302 20305 Barnetby East 25-11-15 (V26036) by Tim Easter, on Flickr The rest of the set is here: https://flic.kr/s/aHskrGkKaD I'll eventually get round to adding more from years past to it, but these recent ones will do for the time being! End of an era..... Cheers, Tim
LNERGE
My thoughts are with those who are displaced later. Quite a few of the signalmen sign my boxes too and i've spent many happy hours around Barnetby and Wrawby (on official business and not) Even Mrs LNERGE is sad to hear the boxes are going.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/32297024@N08/23884468456/
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted December 24, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 24, 2015 153358 (ta to RT) will be the last train signalled by the boxes working 5F96 20:55 CLEETHORPES - 22:37 SHEFFIELD (ECS)
Simon Moore
Really glad I went last summer to see the semaphores in action before they reside in the history books. Such a shame.

In such cases there is usually a mix of some retiring (possibly early), others may transfer to other mechanical / small panel boxes in Lincolnshire (The scheme has had to be reduced in scope to fit the resources available to commission it IIRC), others may have positions in the new ROC or found positions elsewhere in NR and some will unfortunately be made redundant. RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted December 24, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 24, 2015 My thoughts and good wishes go to all those being displaced. Tonight won't be easy. Almost four years on from it happening on our patch, some are still in the job elsewhere, some of us are retired and others have found incredibly diverse new niches on and off the railway. There is life after signalling but no other job ever got under my skin in quite the same way and I'll always be thankful for the "mid-life crisis" that led me into it at the age of 40. One piece of advice, keep in touch with as many of your mates as you can, you'll not find better than railway people and you don't stop being one when you stop being one!. Happy Christmas and all the very best for whatever you do next. John

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted December 24, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 24, 2015 For the final time the signals reading towards Immingham are replaced behind 6E59 with 60059 having the honours - its just passed Brocklesby, the last freight to be signalled locally. RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted December 24, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 24, 2015 And so it ends ... 153358 has just passed Brigg (which is staying) meaning there are no more trains for the boxes to signal. Here's to all who manned the boxes over the years and kept the railway running, often in difficult conditions - thanks.

One of the GPR's based at Barnetby is off back home to Merseyside as a GPR based in the Runcorn area. One of the Appleby signallers has retired. Alot will move on as there seems to be a national shortage of experienced mechanical signallers at the moment, as some retire and nobody coming through signalling school etc. One of the boxes on the Leicester-Peterborough line has only just got a full complement of staff after 2 years of managing with 2 signallers instead of 4! This was down to staff transfering from Bingham and Bottesford West boxes when they both closed at the end of November! Melton Mowbray box is switched out quite often due to shortages. SwissRailPassion
First freights were run today. VMS signals are lit and the job is proceeding. Duncan Scott has posted the terrible end of Ulceby box complete with frame https://www.flickr.com/photos/trains-planes/23730944010/in/photolist-Ca2hT5-C3DoW6-rYLoUd-rYLmC9-CutUR6-8AkUr2-a5n89v-9rFJ77-a5n7Zr-BesL21-a5pYvE-a5n8nz-CutUo2-BDCQTw-paE9v5-ezQ9fL-ezM46v-pFc4pM-ezLWhT-9VLYTc-C48gYH-4xb7EX-CtRCSa-CyQPoh-ezQbDG-5PV91i-CmKVkL-BDX4z7-sLGJRp-CrA7oh-CwjNS8-ByWgPZ-Cza7Dn-Czp8wr-CpAhzm-CavmnU-oVKs5y-5PZxGQ-C1TEdx-Csbm4E-Bx6zqz-9idw6f-BBDerj-ptjsqp-CzjTYd-Cs6Yrp-BDLeNK-BDLfSP-C8gwzs-oNXfDq/

SWT442
It's a real shame to see the signals go, certainly added a certain character to the area. The newer LED signals just seem so very clinical in comparison. In mid-November I took a trip up to get the last shots I could of the semaphores. As luck would have it, a visit to Barnetby East signal box was also made. My sincere thanks to those that arranged it. The box as taken from the road leading to it. It's taller than I thought! The track layout diagram. Would be nice to have hung on a wall! The levers as looking from the entrance door. Other end of the lever frame. 60040 thunders past working 6K21 Santon FOR to Immingham Ore Terminal. Heading the other way, 60099 works 6T22 Immingham Ore Terminal to Santon FOR. The eyesore of a footbridge in full view, 66201 heads through the station with a Milford West Sidings to Humber International Terminal service. 66526 rumbles by working 6M49 Immingham to Barrow Hill(?) Heading under the signal that protects Barnetby station, 66047 approaches with Milford West Sidings to Humber International Terminal. With signal BE70 in the foreground, 66602 reccesses in the reception lines with a Sudforth Lane to Immingham working. With the bland portacabin soon to be doing all the work, 66003 heads past the box with 6H62 Immingham Biomass to Drax PS. The light fades over Wrawby Junction and it's impressive array of semaphores. All picture taken 17.11.2015. Andy.
