Swifty's Rail Pics

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

The majority of my pictures are posted on Facebook and flickr, but I felt it was about time I shared them on here

Please note, the photos I post are my own and are not to be reused without written permission and all photos are taken the right side of the fence!!

The photos will be BB code images from Flickr as RMweb doesn't like the file size

Anyway, to kick off!

87002 back out again in the day time! Everyones favourite electric is seen passing Acton Bridge with 1Z87 London Euston-Liverpool South Parkway charter train carrying Chelsea supporters to Liverpool for their game vs Everton today 12/3/16

This photo was published in Rail Magazine issue 797.

Great photos Swifty. I take it you were the lad from warrington I was talking to at Acton Bridge today? I had my two young kids with me for company. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to more!

Very likely me yes! Blonde hair?

Did I meet you down at the station or at the bridge?

Thanks very much, will whack a few more pics on tomorrow!

More of yesterdays antics (yes, I do visit places other than Acton Bridge although you wouldn't believe it!)

66718 'Sir Peter Hendy' in its stunning black LT livery idles passed Acton Bridge with 5Z87 Liverpool South Parkway to Crewe Down Refuse siding via Lime Street 12/3/16

Always nice to see one of these out and about, 92043 'Debussy' in triple grey Europorte 2 livery passes Acton Bridge in use with GBRf on 6L48 Garston to Dagenham empty cartics. Interestingly, the loco only worked as far as Crewe before being taken off in favour of a 66. 12/3/16

And another more unusual move, ROG were contracted to take a rake of FGW/GWR/Whatever their called this week mk3s to Kilmarnock for refurb. 56301 and 56098 were hired in for the move and are seen powering passed Warrington Bank Quay working 5S56 Laira - Kilmarnock (Barclay siding)

Interestingly, the 56s failed the day after at Carlisle, and fellow ROG hire in 37884 was sent to rescue the locos and tow them back to Leicester.

Another normal boring move -

66618 Railways illustrated 6H35 Acton Bridge

I have to admit, the Freightliner green and yellow livery in my opinion is the smartest. Recently, Freightliner have began touching up their 66s so they look smart again. One example that's had the treatment is 66618 'Railways Illustrated Annual Photographic Award - Alan Barnes' passes Acton Bridge station in some of the better light of the day with 6H35 Runcorn Folly Lane - Northended Bin Liner 12/3/16

66147 6Z20 WASHWOOD HEATH R.M.C. - ARPLEY SIDINGS - Acton Bridge

By this point an impressive 53 minutes down (With the up working actually passing about 5 minutes after the light loco move (0Z20) back to WWH was meant to pass Acton Bridge!)

66147 roars through Acton Bridge with 6Z20 Washwood Heath R.M.C to Arpley Sidings wagon job. 12/3/16

Not the shot I had planned, as that shelter was right in the way, so I decided to attempt to frame it with the lamp

Two shots from the same day of the same train!

While waiting for my train to Crewe (and then lift to Sandbach) 57313 and 57316 came along on 5Z47 Carnforth to Tysley ECS

First up, the consist is seen powering through Warrington Bank Quay

Next up, after following the pair from Hartford all the way to Crewe (making my pendolino a nice 10 minutes late) 5Z47 stands at Crewe waiting the charge south.

Back in January, 'that steam engine' was out on test at the ELR and working passenger runs. 31466 was tucked inside to keep the coaches warm and also to help with braking, this being because Scotsman had a nagging break problem.

The train was already running late by 10 o'clock in the morning, and was a good half an hour down passing me at my first location and over an hour down at Ewood Bridge.

Here it is out on its runs seen at two locations, firstly approaching Sommerseat.

And passing Ewood Bridge, with snow now falling and the light rapidly going

Time for a shot not at Acton Bridge!

Something a bit further north, after a day on the coast behind my favourite nose (402)

66707 'Sir Sam Fay' pauses at Carlisle with a coal train (sorry no train info on this one, never bothered with it back then) on 18/10/15

Another one from further afield, a productive WMDR last year delivered some good locos.

Stop number 5 of the day was spotters haven Water Orton where we headed down to a local foot crossing for some shots.

Here, 70806 passes Water Orton bound for Bescot with engineers wagons.

Please note, the shot was taken in a place of safety, well alway from the running line and behind the 'stop, look, listen' sign.

Another (and the final until I go again) batch from Acton Bridge. As you can tell the bridge and field are two of my favourite locations for shots on the WCML that are close to me. However, all 3 of these shots are from a different vantage point

Always nice to see one of these out and about, 92043 'Debussy' in triple grey Europorte 2 livery passes Acton Bridge in use with GBRf on 6L48 Garston to Dagenham empty cartics. Interestingly, the loco only worked as far as Crewe before being taken off in favour of a 66. 12/3/16

More of the mundane...

And finally, one from a visit in 2015 from further down the line. 66710 'Phil Parker Brit' passes Low Green Farm, Crowton on 4E10 biomass bound for Drax P.S. I remember on the day there was some excitement on if 59003 would drop on after it had travelled to Drax that week but sadly not.

Two GBRf monsters from a day around the West Midlands. Seen just outside Water Orton.

66731 tops an unknown working with some newly painted ex Freightliner wagons in tow. Think it was empty sand?

And finally the whopper. Fresh from import, 66750 in its smart blue passes in the opposite direction on 6G16 Cliffe Hill Stud Farm - Bescot Up Engineers Sdgs

Anyone out and about in the north this morning will have known about the horrid weather, so this shot wasn't what I'd planned.

Thankfully, it turned out okay!

86101 'Sir William A Stannier FRS' flies through Hartford, with 1Z85 London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street charter. The train was laid on to ferry Tottenham supporters to watch them play the mighty Liverpool at Anfield. All i'll say is I don't like Harry Kane anymore.

The one of 66731 is an empty gypsum working from Portbury (or possibly Avonmouth) to one of the Midland power stations.
