Hi Trev,

Did you get your noisy Hornby class 56 running any better?

I unclip the plastic cover on top of the gear tower and pull out the drive shaft and worm gear. I removed all the dried on crappy grease and cleaned up the bearings then dropped in a little fine oil. This seems to get them running better.

Cheers Peter.

Ile have to give this ago on mine too Peter :good:

Ive been adding orange trunking to banks road Trev, along with concrete ducting..

Hi Neil,

Ive seen the orange PVC tubing that runs beneath the rail to protect cables.

This is what Gary was referring to previously.

I must get back in the garage this week - did absolutely nothing on the layout over the weekend!

The concrete units are know as concrete troughing the orange pipes are not called trunking but orange pipe.

Orange pipe is used to reach localised items only.

The reason is to make it visible to tampers and the like, however if a orange pipe was damaged by a tamper its affect would be localised and relatively easily fixed.orange pipe does not form part of a cable route.

If a cable route passed through an orange pipe which was dug up the effect and amount of repair work would be massive, you can't simply strip cables and wrap in insulating tape like you can on a model railway layout. Splices are not permitted as they are a point of weakness.

Please also bear in mind the size difference internally between troughing and small pipe.

Ive not really done much to the layout for at least 3 weeks.

What with the mad weather, work and my ever increasing interst in fish keeping, Long Lane has been getting very little attention!

I have modified some of the cable trunking and ballast.

Ive also got the airbrush out and weathered the ballast in front of the bridge, and added weeds.

I think Ill do some static grassing on sunday around the whole area.

With fish keeping I had 4 piranhas a few years ago until they bullied each other I ended up with one who was called Marvin (Starvin Marvin) he loved fresh venison but it was such hard work.

The layout is looking good matey

Hi Trev.

Discovered this last week and have spent a very happy few evenings wandering through. Loving it so far, especially the range of locos - I haven't got enough hiding places for that many! Looking forward to more between the fish wrangling.

Hi Rich,

Thank you for the kind comments, they are very much appreciated.

The loco/stock thing has really got out of hand to be honest and Ive sold quite a lot off recently, and Ive still got enough for a small model shop!

Really not sure what way Im going with the layout TBH and fish are far more appealing presently!

Thanks for looking,

Trev :)

Disappointing to hear. You're modelling and the era in particular have given me a kick up the behind to get cracking. I've recently found the will to do a repaint for the first time. It's not perfect, but its the small things that make a difference to motivation.

Maybe try build another few kits of the era etc, might give you a boost

I know how you feel, when the mojo isn't there even a stick of TNT couldn't get you moving. Take a break and chill for a while, but don't be to hasty to get rid of the layout as you may regret it in the future. You could try building a little shunting plank for a change, possibly even different era or gauge.

Much appreciated, thank you.

I do have a Tim Horn modular layout that I have been planning on doing something with (I bought some finescale track last year with a view to doing this but never got round to it)

I really fancy doing an industrial steam layout with a post 1968 Jinty............

I think Its seasonal something or other disorder but in reverse.......!

Cheers for your comments :)

Feeling exactly the same. Have been looking at one corner for the past two weeks with no idea what to do with it. It will pass - probably when the nights draw in and the rain sets in.

Good luck.

Rich

Morning Rich,

I think youre right.

The majority of my modelling gets done when the nights draw in. :)
