Arrowhead Models has previewed at the Spring Creek Trainshow today their version of the ACF 4600 cu. ft. Covered Hopper.

 

Arrowhead showed an EP sample, with the model listed as coming soon.

Athearn has pre-announced (full announcement in August announcements this Friday) a couple of their August items related to Amtrak.

 

  • Genesis P42 - all 5 Amtrak 50th paint schemes (arrival est. August 2022 so lots of time to save)
  • RTR F59PHI - including never done before "Be Track Smart" Operation Lifesaver paint scheme

 

Kato has indicated the official announcement for their Viewliner II Baggage car will be August, delivery early 2022

 

Kato has said announced likely next year the 5 heritage paint schemes on the P42.

 

Kato will be announcing the Amtrak long distance Charger in the future.

Not an announcement - they were announced long ago and suffered many delays along the way - but Bowser's new RS3 is finally in production (post on another forum showed the Pennsy shells, photos taken after a visit to Bowser in the last week)

 

First versions are Boston & Maine, Central Vermont, D&H, EL, GT, Green Bay & Western, L&N, Milwaukee, Nickel Plate, NP, N&W, Pennsy, SP&S, WM.  See bottom of PDF for list of other roadnames/versions to come in the future.

Broadway Limited - both models due December 2021 so orders are first come first served.

 

EMD E1A/E1B (ATSF), EMC EA/EB (B&O, GM&O) - note the EA models are E1's painted for B&O/GM&O - Broadway says the EA units were "close" to E1 units in exterior design - with only 6 EA units built it is unlikely anyone will ever tool a RTR EA

And my perception (based on released paint schemes) is that B&O isn't a big seller - most B&O stuff recently has been done as Chessie with the B&O lettering on the cab.

 

Are there small number prototypes that could be viable for KR Models?  Yes, but I think you would have to go for something really unique, and ideally owned by the big sellers.  SP had some interesting locos or something like the Alco T6 might work.

SP/UP smaller steam such as consolidations and moguls originally built when both were Harriman owned/influenced railroads would be a consistent money maker. Bonus for ease of manufacture is that the visible valve gear is simplified Stevenson valve gear similar in appearance to GWR Churchward. Cylindrical, rectangular or semi-cylindrical (aka "whaleback") tenders for both coal and oil fired versions provides a variety using the same locomotive.
