Interesting new product from Piko - they are doing a Whitcomb center cab switcher built in the US for use in Europe during WW2, though post war many returned to the US and also to Canada.

see pages 170/171 in the PDF catalog - https://www.piko.de/KAT_PDF/99501.pdf

Google Translate is so-so, but it will have traction tires and the type of coupler isn't clear - though perhaps unlikely that Piko would tool up a North American coupler - but even if the model comes with European coupler it could be an easy fix given the scarcity of small North American switchers available.

Buried even further down the Piko catalogue, on page 376, is their intent to produce a Siemens Desiro 2 car Diesel multiple unit in NCTD Sprinter livery, it looks sharp!

Not cheap at €259.99 sans sound etc but certainly nice for passenger service in current times.

Good point - it is going to take a while for the idea that the FRA will allow European passenger stuff to filter through both on the prototype, but also on less strict model layouts who want to have a bit of fun with a modern passenger service.

Having travelled on those services numerous times to visit various breweries I do fancy one of those. However they require raised platforms with floding back ramps to allow frieght to pass at night so would be interesting as to how to make them work. Would certainly be a talking point at Freemo meets.

Only if you care to support your HO wheelchair passengers.

The standard non-high-level platform height in North America is 8", the commuter bilevels have some sort of recessed 25" platform for disabled access.  SIemens Desiro brochure says 550mm level boarding (21.6") so there is no reason the European rolling stock couldn't use 8" platforms - and if you really wanted the easy way to accomdate your disabled customers would be a portable lift, kept secured in a little hut out of the way on the platform (this is what VIA does).  (or you could do the GO style raised platform  that is set back, and train personnel put in place a ramp to bridge the gap between the 25" platform and the train).

At Santa Barbara they have a small raised platform but also a small manual lift stored in a small hut which is what I have seen used but not the raised platform . Modelled both on my N scale layout of Santa Barbara.
