Simond
Hi all, Not strictly "rolling stock", more a means of preventing stock rolling. I have seen various styles of buffer stop, and am aware that Ragstone make a very nice model of the standard GWR stop, in 7mm. I'm interested to know whether the GW (or Cambrian) had any "short" stops, for use in restricted spaces. I'm thinking particularly of the end of the coal road through a coaling stage, where the full wagons are left, ready to roll down to be unloaded. It seems to me that the civil engineer would not want to build the structure to support the siding roughly one wagon length longer than its capacity, just to use a standard buffer stop, and I wonder a shortened version exists, and if so, where I might find a picture (or kit). The other place such a short stop would be useful would be on the dead ends at the turntable. You might guess I'm scrimping on space... Any thoughts, pointers, references or ideas most welcome Best Simon

Gordon A
Yes Lanarkshire Models do a short GWR buffer stop in 4mm. Have a look at their list for pictures. Gordon A
RMweb Premium HillsideDepot Posted August 5, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 5, 2016 Something like these at Oxford? I don't know if these existed anywhere without a platform wall behind them though. I feel that stop blocks would really need something behind them to support them otherwise they'd not be effective for anything but the gentlest of contacts. Simond
Thanks guys. Just what I wanted! Now, anyone know if they're available in 7mm? If not, I feel a bit of rail bending coming on! Thanks again Simon

RMweb Premium NCB Posted August 5, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 5, 2016 If you want a really minimal buffer stop look at http://www.festrail.co.uk/gallery_press/albums/Other%20Railways/Cambrian/Glandyfi%20Station%20%20-%20Mr%20Wilcke-%20.JPG Nor clear from this pic but I've seen others of the station where a single sleeper laid across the track sufficed. Quarryscapes
If you want a really minimal buffer stop look at http://www.festrail.co.uk/gallery_press/albums/Other%20Railways/Cambrian/Glandyfi%20Station%20%20-%20Mr%20Wilcke-%20.JPG Nor clear from this pic but I've seen others of the station where a single sleeper laid across the track sufficed. Quite common on the Cambrian towards the end of the 60s, just two manky bits of wood poking out of the ground at the railhead! Kerry station was just so. Simond
Thanks Alan, they look very good! I don't fancy the monks bits of wood, the loco shed's supposed to be relatively new! Best Simon
3 link
Hi Simon, For once it looks like I can help you out, Ragstone now do the above GWR buffers which include the check rails at the front. They are in white metal but the castings are nice and crisp, in you would like I will post a picture up of what you get in the bag as I have not got round to building them yet. Regards, Martyn. PS, Doh! I have just read your first post, but saying that I can see no reason as to why you couldn't cut the back of the buffers off to make the space saving variety.
